Losing 3 of 4 to miss the playoffs in 88. Including a heartbreaker to the Giants when LT owned us.

Flipper Anderson roasting us on Sunday Night Football.

Losing to the Falcons and ending the season on a shitty note after starting 7-0.

NFC Championship game. Still not over it.

yup, and the end of eacg game in consecutive years I believe. Then the falcons win again next season:

As opening day against the hated Falcons of Atlanta arrived, memories of the previous years games where still fresh in the minds of these Saints......visions of "Big Ben" and last second scores. Fate would still be unkind to the bearers of Black-and-Gold.

In overtime, with the score knotted up at 34, a deep snap sailed over rookie punter Russell Erxleben's head. Erxleben managed to recover the foiled snap and hurl a desperation pass into the air...... only to be snatched away by back-up running back James Mayberry, who trotted 6 yards into the endzone for the winning score. For the third consecutive time, the Falcons had won in the closing seconds. While offense managed to hang tough (Muncie had 158 yards on the ground) the defense yielded 552 yards to the Falcons.

Erxleben was our first round pick as a punter/kicker from Texas; he had a 67 yd. GF in college.

Remember he was supposed to be our punter and placekicker? What a waste of a 1st round draft pick.

Jets game in 01. We had that game and blew it. Then turley rips that dudes head off. Crowd starts throwing drinks on the field. Game, blouses.

Yes. He was a stright-foot kicker too

And I'll say that a playoff game better not make next years version of this list.

The Saints 2001 implosion. They were 9-4 and only needed a one win in their last three games to make the playoffs. Well they lose out to finish 9-7, with losses at home to the 3-10 Vikings (where they broke out the new gold unis), the 1-13 Bengals, and the 6-9 Panthers at home the final week of the season.

I still have the Sunday newspaper the day of the Bengals game and it says, "Saints say: time to put up or shutup... The playoffs draw near." Ouch.

Didn't they have one last chance with Detroit either having to win or lose and of course, it did not go our way in that game either?. I think the saints had already lost their game and Detroit game was after--maybe.

I don't remember. They did need a little help the final week of the season after they lost the two games before that. But they still could have taken care of it themselves by just beating the 3-10 Vikings or the 1-13 Bengal before that.

Yeah, same season i was talking about. At that point, I knew they would get no help.

That was '02. and it was cleveland beating atlanta that would put us in the playoffs if we just beat Carolina, the last game of the season. I was there for that one

This was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this topic (besides the Carney extra point miss of course)

One of mine is the loss to the Eagles in the 1992 playoffs. We had a big lead at halftime with one of the best defenses in the history of the franchise and we just got destroyed in the 2nd half.

When Ricky Williams got traded to the dolphins....he was and still is bad arse. He could have been one of the best RBs in franchise history of the Saints would have handled him right.
