Watching that game when florida got those 2 phantom calls that led to a touchdown was just agonizing to watch

2 calls??? HOw bout the face mask? The LB had his hand on the side of Demps' helmet. Did not know this was a facemask! And, the fricking unnecessary roughness call????? BRUTAL!!! Should have been on UF if anything! That was called by the REF himself. He is a douche! He will not be around long if he keeps making those calls. He in fact is the same ref who called the celebrations in our game vs. UGA. BRUTAL! I really felt bad for ARKY

Interesting theory. How many times has the loser of the SECCG played in a BCS bowl?

Well how many times have the #1 and #2 teams played each other in the SECCG? If Alabama and Florida remain undefeated, the loser of the SECCG will definitely go to a BCS bowl game, you can count on it. Think about Michigan/Ohio St in 2006, both were undefeated going into their #1/#2 match-up. Ohio St played Florida in the BCS Championship, and Michigan played USC in the Rose Bowl.

arrakis, you seem to know a lot about the rules.

I was corrected earlier about the position of the players on the line in relation to the center.

I thought it was the shoulder, not the waist.

Tell me, at 1:04 how many players are in the backfield?

Is this illegal procedure?

I count 4. Are you counting a different number?

So the left tackle/guard and right tackle are on the line of scrimmage according to the rules?

Looks fine to me. The camera angle is going to distort the view; if you looked down the LOS, they would be legal.

Is anyone pitching a fit about it?

Different than any other bowl. The Rose Bowl always wants a PAC-10 team versus a Big-10 team. This is not likely to happen with another BCS bowl.

auburn complained about LSU not having enough men on the line for the same thing back in the GW drive in 2007

player in question was a wideout who was "off" the line but signaled "on" the line

Did anyone notice that in the ALA-USC game that the ALA player that intercepted the ball and scored on like the first play threw the ball out his hand before he crossed the plain on the goaline?

LINK

You should watch that again.

Anyway...anyone saying that Alabama got favoritism in that game is a fool. We definitely got our fare share of penalties...none of our block in the backs (questionable or not) were missed while USC had tons that were missed.

I think, on the whole, officials are doing a poor job this year. They need to get their shite together.

and the one second back on the clock for last play was shameful
To be fair, that was because the folks at Buffalo Wild Wings weren't ready for the game to be over. The refs were trying to send it into overtime but ND couldn't pull it off.

1st down?

That's what you get for trusting the CBS line.

Here's your pic w/ the first down line at the 18:

Here's the measurement with the first down marker at the 19:

How does a WR signal "on" the line....and if he did, what difference would it make?

If the SEC gets two teams in BCS bowl games, they will receive $36 million.

The second team from a conference only gets about 4.5 million. The total for two teams would be about 22M. The numbers may have changed recently but it's close to this. It's done this way so no conference gets a giant windfall.

I know i'm pissin' in the wind, dreamin' BIG time and deserving of all the I'm gonna get for this but what I'd love to see is coaches step up and do the right thing on blatant and obvious screw-ups by the refs.
I've posted on here several times about LSU's former baseball coach Jim Smith stepping up and refusing an umpires screw-up in a SECCG in '75 that could have potentially put us 1 game down in the series. It was simply the right thing to do and he did it! We went on to win the SEC but that act then and still does stand out more to me than the championship.
There is so much money involved these days and such an emphasis on winning at all costs that good sportsmanship and just plain honesty have virtually disappeared from all levels of sports.
It is also indicative of our society as a whole that we place winning and money over doing the right thing. Coaches know when certain calls are bogus. If they truly believe that part of their job is to help their players become people of character rather than become characters, then they need to step up and do the right thing, even if it costs them a game. We'd all be the better off for it, imho.

and you say i am clueless.....

when the wide out points straight down or to the side at a 90 the side judge or line judge acknowledges that he is GOOD meaning on the line usually with a head nod or if the wideout is in fact too far off the line said ref motions for him to move...

same for being OFF the line then motion with their hand towards the back.....

and it makes a difference because the ref counts him as ON the line once he okays it and the two refs on the line signal to each other how many they have on their side -

though most of my time was as a FJ - I liked being the side judge better...
