Miles is qouted in the Advocate today on the play of the O-line and JJ.
“If we don’t have penalties that put us behind the chains and get into obvious passing situations where every tackle in America is challenged to have somebody run around him, then the offensive line doesn’t appear that they’re blocking that poorly,” Miles said. “Several guys had good days and blocked very well.
“Handle a quicker scenario making a decision and rather than spend the time in the pocket looking to get out when he’s hemmed in, throw it away,” Miles said.
I respect that Miles does not throw his players under the bus. I also think he doesn't want to say things that will get the guys down on themselves. I'm sure they are already doubting themselves as it is.
With that said, does it bother you that he feels the line blocked ok? or that JJ should just throw it away?
Granted, there are times that throwing it away is the thing to do, but would that have changed this game at all?
He harps on execution as being our problem. If so, when do you start giving some of your other star recruits as chance? Is our depth that weak?
Man, I hope not.

the line couldn't pass block because jj was taking a 5 step drop in the shotgun. can you imagine making a pass pocket for a fricking punter?

our OL depth is very, very young

I agree you have to try out some other folks if they can't execute, that is on the player's shoulders. Do your job or take a seat.
it's no different than in real life at work.

JJ has been putting the OL in TERRIBLE spots.

The last thing a starter need is the head coach bashing them to a newspaper. He can save that for practice. He did right.

There is 0 pocket for Jefferson to set up in. Varney said that and Rosetta just said it again and the head writer for the Daily Reveille said the same thing. The OL is the problem but I read the Miles quote and he didn't say the line blocking was good or OK, he said "the offensive line doesn’t appear that they’re blocking that poorly". That poorly doesn't translate into good the way I define that poorly...hell of a lot of distance between "that poorly" and "good".

On the line - I'm assuming he has broken down the film in much greater detail than any of us have tyhe capability to. He also knows the assignment of each player on each playcall, which would go into his assessment. I'll have to,,,,,trust?,,,,him.
On throwing it away - absolutely spot on. Two successive sacks taken (to start the 3rd qtr I believe) were huge and sapped any confidence our Offense had for the second half. You simpply cannot lose 10+ yards on successive plays. I know it is difficult, but JJ has got to learn to step up to buy time then throw it away if the WR isn't getting open. He also cannot wait for them to BE open, he has to anticipate.

The OL has been putting Jefferson in IMPOSSIBLE spots.

You are right. And is has been happening for several games now.
So...Is JJ being taught that? Or is he doing it on his own?
If he is not following what he is coached to do, when do you take him out and try someone else?

No doubt that LSU has depth, it's just lack of experience that may make Miles and staff hesitate putting them in. I am one that believes it's worth the chance in putting some of the backups in to give a different look or the needed experience. The problems aren't going anywhere, why try to cover them up?

Great points Sid.
What I see is a contradiction from Miles.
The lined blocked well and then in the next paragraph he states JJ needs to throw it away.
Why does he need to throw it away(so many times), if the line is blocking well?

I know we have run some pass plays form under center. Has the pass blocking been better when JJ starts from under center?

you could also say the line has put JJ in TERRIBLE SPOTS.
Jefferson taking 5 to 7 steps back out of the shotgun is a problem. but it is an easy fix, well easy if he had a good coach.
Also the problems on the line are greater than the problems at quarterback.

Would it please The Rant if Miles called everyone out (players and coaches) publicly after a loss or poor performance? Throw everyone under the bus? Miles has never and will never do this. Thank God for that.

"Miles talk" for the line is blocking well enough to give JJ enough time to make the decision: take the throw or throw it away

so basically we can expect nothing to change scheme or personnel wise b/c it is always execution problems... well if the coaches think that their shite is working and the players are executing, at least give somebody a chance to "execute" better. INSANITY... I would have said on Monday every position is open, we are going to have a hell week and battle... may the best man win to start against Auburn. Then next week put in the gameplan. Competition fuels improvement... if you think your starting position is in jeopardy you are going to try to "execute" better.
