This guy was absolutely the best overall Tiger of all time. His accomplishments and accolades are mind boggling, and no other Tiger can compare. If he were competing for the Heisman in the mid-late 90's, he would have won it for his notable defensive back play, as well as for his versatility.

He played 3 years, and he played running back, punt/kick returner, and defensive back. He was selected as a member of the All-America Team in all 3 of his years on campus. (the only three-time All-American in LSU history).

i can see the argument for the good Doc. But, it is best served to honor a group than a single.....less argumentative.

Casanova
Cannon
Tittle
Dorsey
Hilliard
etc.

Dorsey is LSU's single most decorated player sans the Heisman.

This is true.... my dad used to talk about him all the time while I was growing up....
From Crowley, La...... "The Rice Capital"
My dad sad in high school he used to ease up because he would hurt people when he would hit them.

You are correct. The Doc was amazing, smooth, and could do everything. One of the greatest -- Stovall, Cannon, Casanova I think are the three best of all time.

This 21-year-old loves things like this. Helps me brush up on my history and I for one LOVE the way the numbers are placed in Tiger Stadium. Win or lose this Saturday is going to be amazing, the atmosphere, the memories and now the added specialness of retiring a number of an LSU great!

ETA: Bonus, I'm from the Crowley area

Between him and Jimmy Taylor as the very best. Many of the players today that think they are tough couldn't take the what Casanova or Taylor could dish out and handle.

from what I hear, he would have been more celebrated than Cannon had he won a heisman, he was in the running every year and just couldn't get it from what I hear.

He got hurt at the start of his senior year (hamstring). That really eliminated any chance for this.

Heisman Winners --
1969 - Steve Owens, Fullback, Oklahoma
1970 - Jim Plunkett, QB, Stanford (#1 in NFL Draft)
1971 - Pat Sullivan, QB, Auburn

In the 1971 NFL Draft, The Doc was the 29th pick (2nd round). Pat Sullivan, the Heisman winner, was the 40th pick (2nd round).

No, the song that you are refuring to is the song about LSU beating Archie Manning. The name of the song was "Archie Who!" In the song all the great names of the Tigers on defense was named. I have the record.
