outside of MLB wins stats for pitchers, and maybe Henderson's Stolen base mark or Chamberlain's rebound numbers, what other career records in sports are as untouchable?

Cal Ripken's streak of games played. Joe D's 56 game (Too much pressure and pitchers will screw it up), Gretzky's goal record (Hockey now is more defensive oriented)

Wilt's 100oints in agame or nailing 30K babes

Pistol Pete's scoring average

Hakeem's blocks record. Dwight Howard won't get close. No active player is within 1000.

all good records, but i guess i am talking more about career total records. Not single game marks, averages, or streaks.

but, now that you mentioned streaks i heard on ESPN radio that Peyton Manning has only missed ONE SNAP in his career due to injury. He had to come out b/c the trainers came out, but he was right back in the following play after he sat out his required one. That's amazing, imo...even more impressive than the Favre and Ripken streaks.

Ty Cobbs career batting average will never be touched

another Cy Young record that will never be broken is his career record for complete games.

If a pitcher played 20 years, he would have to average 37 complete games a year just to sniff the record. The last time a pitcher even started 37 games in a season was in 1991

to put Cy Young's complete game record in perspective, if Greg Maddux had pitched a complete game in every single regular single game he ever started in his career, he would have still ended up being 9 games short of tying Young's record

Cy Youngs 511 wins aren't getting sniffed at either... not with Today's rotation.

i think his record for 18 wins in 1 year is more untouchable considering tiger has gotten to 7 wins in a row and 6 wins in a row. not saying he will win 11 but he has a better shot at this than 18 wins in 1 year.

Most pitching records are untouchable thanks to changes in the way pitchers are treated.

Pistol Pete's career NCAA scoring record won't be touched.
