I hated McCray's skill set at CB and FS.

But why anyone would over McCray being a SS is beyond me. He is a smart player that tackles well for a DB. He will be fine, although not spectacular, at SS.

And they replace him with McCray??

it'll be ok. now if we can just have a CB when we go to the nickel (that means you Taylor/ Brooks/ loser of the Jai-Hawk battle)....

strong safety has more responsibility in stopping the run than in covering a slot guy.

learn that please.

this is still kind of a curve ball, seemed like taylor had the job wrapped up.

no... interior lineman being an interior lineman is offense/defense. When I said, being a DB is being a DB, I meant that they all cover WRs/TE and do pretty much the same thing. Ik they are different though.

this is odd considering every practice report had brandon taylor running with the #1s pretty much all camp

It makes a lot of sense, with McCray's abilities and experience. The bigger curveball was McCray playing/listed at FS behind Jones at times in the offseason. Why they would keep McCray there despite his shown strengths and weaknesses was beyond me.

If the safeties are interchangeable, yes. But in that case we aren't really talking about SSs. SSs cover RBs and TEs, not WRs, unless you are running a strange matchup scheme or blitzing a CB.

they're in more for the run game. I'm sure McCray can provide enough over the top help for our DBs.

you just don't know what they are. Would you have called Hunt a shitty safety? He couldn't cover Harvin either.

For some reason, I just remember Coleman covering slot WR's all the time. If SS's were more of a run stopper than pass, im confused why coleman was taken out of his spot. He sucked in the pass, but was one helluva hitter/tackler.

THIS, plus the fact that EVERY report you read had Danny backing up CJ at FS.

Where is the dude that lives next door to him, perhaps he could ask Danny if this is true.

So it's been repeatedly said we're not going to sub much and our base package is our "nickel", but we have two safeties who can't cover for shite?

Makes sense.

quit being a jackass ryan. mccray will be fine at ss. he's a sr with experience plus he'll be good in run support. if you cant stop the run in the sec you are toast, you know this shite so quit pretending to be a uninformed rant

dude...

we are not going to be running the malveto/pellini scheme anymore. players will not be put in the same positions as they were last year.
