PLEASE come back and enlighten us. Everyone's just dying to hear the latest reality-denying cure for everything that our liberal betters want to try on us.

The media makes Les out to be dumb (wrong) and they are always suckling on Saban. That's why.

Nawlens Gator, are you referring to the multiple times LSU had 4th down and your defense knew it was going to be a running play and who was going to get the rock and he just crammed it right down your teams throat? is that what you mean by we shouldn't have won; your D's complete and utter failure to stop Jacob Hester?

[quote]my friends from north LA dislike Miles the most. I really think it is that mid-western twang that they just can't get over (quote)

i find it unbelievable that people dislike someone simply because of their accent. i'm sorry, but if that is true, it is the embodiment of ignorance. imagine if he was black?

Les Miles
I actually like that he bumbles a bit in his public appearances. He’s not embarrassing up there,
You can't be serious. Miles is a college educated professional. He needs to sound it and like he knows what's going on on the field. He NEVER talks about strategies that worked/didn't work that resulted in the outcome of the game. He tries too hard to be funny & cute. It often makes him look goofy and dumb.
Were he the head coach at USC, Ohio State, Florida, Texas, etc...... 99% of the fans on this board would laugh and make fun of him and the univeristy because of how clueless he sounds.
I don't have a tremendous amount of faith in him. The team seldom looks well prepared against average to above average teams until a bowl game. Their on the field discipline has never been very good under him.
Every year he's been the coach here, his team has blown a double digit lead. His OSU teams were prone to that as well. Attention to detail & discipline are primary reasons why LSU has blown those leads or had to pull out wins in the final minutes. You can count on one hand the teams that have had similar talent as the Tigers since '05.
In the first year with the majority of his signees playing, the team was a disappointment.

You weren't disappointed in the way the team performed last season?

Why do LSU fans still have an uneasy comfort level with Les Miles being a dominate coach?

Only the stupid LSU "fans" have this conception/problem. Unfortunately they have a forum like this to attempt to spread their stupidity.

I fail to see the correlation between a subpar season and the "Les Miles" recruits argument. Please enlighten me.

Miles and his staff do an excellent job preparing the team that is evident in their bowl success, but i think he lacks intensity- not in general, who can forget his speech "My damn strong football team" but we seem to lose momentum in the middle of the season or at times in the middle of the game and that is where Les needs to play a more vital role.

Hey Geert, what do you know about all this? Weren't you on the floor when we blew a 43-point lead to Kentucky?

exactly, just because he isn't a good speaker doesn't mean he isn't a good coach.
Yeah, communication, presentation, and aura aren't a requirement in coaching.

Stoops had a catastrophe season in 2005. Saban sucked in 2002 and 2004. EVERYBODY has bad seasons.

I disagree with what you say about Les Miles as a speaker becuase he is a motivator. His speech gets me pumped enough to want to play

I like coach Miles. I had an uneasy feeling last season because I thought that the co-D coordinator idea was doomed to failure and, unfortunately, was proven right. I didn't like those two as position coaches, let alone as coordinators.
That said, one of the things that makes a successful HC in big-time college football is not only recruiting talented players, but talented coaches. He dropped the ball last year, but I believe that the current group could be the best in the country. What's more, he seems to be a great guy to work with, so they could be here awhile. Remember the shelf life of a Saban assistant?
And please don't give me that "he won with Saban's players" crap. The talent is there, and this could be the most talented group that we've ever had. Last year was a result of poor defensive coaching and poor quarterback play. You can't fault Miles for the QB play, and he corrected the defensive coaching problems at the end of the season (not mid-season like some idiotic "alpha-male" coaches have done at other schools). He treats others well, and has been able to draw stellar coaching talent because of it.
As for bad calls, he's MUCH better than Dinardo was, and even Saban had a few head scratchers. People seem to forget or ignore the fact that Saban also had a 5 loss season after a good one, and for similar reasons (QB play). People remember the "Bluegrass Miracle", but they don't remember that LSU blew the lead late and shouldn't have needed that Hail Mary to beat an inferior Kentucky team.
And I'll take Miles' bowl record over Saban's any fargin' day.

the only thing that sticks is that he is a horrible speaker

I can only speak for myself but this has always been something that has been difficult to reconcile.

The first impression we get of these guys is how they represent themselves in pressers and Les started with a bad first impression with me in that regard. Not only in manner of speech but in substance.

And I've seen him in all different settings and gatherings and contrary to some who have told me he is better one-on-one etc., etc. I have not found that to be the case.

He has earned some points with me with his integrity (at least in a relative sense) and genuineness. His willingness to trust his kids and put it on the line in tough situations is also a trait that has intrigued me. And I find him likeable and want him to succeed because it means success for LSU on and off the field, which is all I care about.

But I will never see him as the calculating genius that some do. I don't buy that his persona of this Columbo-like facade to dupe his more polished and slick contemporaries.

I think he is what you see. Now there's some good in that no doubt.

But I've always asked others when this comes up what they would be saying and thinking of Les were he having similar success at a rival SEC school. Because passion is the true enemy of reason..or something like that.

I don't think he's a bad coach at all. Some people just don't accept still. Aftet all, he is now 19-0 or 20-0 in non conference games including bowls. That's freakin awesome!!!!!
