Why do LSU fans still have an uneasy comfort level with Les Miles being a dominate coach? I was asked this last night at dinner and the only thing that sticks is that he is a horrible speaker on and off the camera. Do you think his speech habits are what cause people to doubt him? I think for me, thats is the only thing that makes me uneasy about the coach. Nick Saban was great on camera and so was Dinardo. I think besides the speaking, he tends to let his assistants take control instead of himself in games IMO. What about you?

Because almost every game is a nail biter when on paper LSU should whip that arse. And b/c 2007 team lost 2 games it shouldnt have, which I think leaves many of us with little hollow feeling deep down.

so was Dinardo

exactly, just because he isn't a good speaker doesn't mean he isn't a good coach. on the way to work this morning i heard some of the sports talk radio guy's list their top ten coaches in the country. Les was #8, most of the media up here is very bias twds oklahoma and not oklahoma state fwiw. he made a big mistake last year in hiring from within, thank god he fixed that mistake and i hope in the future he doesn't try it again.

I dont think it has as much to do with his speaking ability as it does his decision making sometimes.

Alot of people, including myself, still are not sure if he is crazy like a fox or just crazy.

I am an LSU fan, and I have no problems with Les. I'm glad he's our coach and hope he stays a long time.

He just doesn't fit that ALPHA MALE coach type that some of the big time coaches are I.E Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Bobby Stoops and so forth...

I actually like that he bumbles a bit in his public appearances. He’s not embarrassing up there, but after Saban, I was sick to death of super polished snake-oil salesmen who specialized in coachspeak. His players seem to love him, and that’s what counts for me: his relationship with the team.

And let the timeout thing go. It was a mistake.

I disagree that Saban and DeNerdo were better speakers. I like the way Les comes across. Saban's sulky frown irks me and Nerdo said some really dumb things. Les is original and speaks from the heart. Hard to listen to Les without liking him. Not so with the other two.

i had an uneasy comfort level with saban after a year or so too. i just didn't know which team would show up, esp. in bowl games. after the nc game, it seemed like he lost interest, just didn't have that intensity. it was like he was burned out or something. to answer you question, i too have an uneasy comfort level with miles being a dominate coach, but no less than with saban.

Ar-Kansas

and the fact that we weren't a good team last year makes me feel kind of uneasy.

i'm not saying he isn't a great coach, but he didn't look like an "alpha male" in this interview. all coaches look stupid at times, even the great ones

Good example, As much as I hate Arkansas, I shook my head to when he made that comment.

It's simply part of big-time college football now. LSU is no different than any other school.

Are there some South Carolina fans that are starting to get "uneasy" about Spurrier? You bet. The "he's lost his mojo" talk is startung to take hold.

Nick Saban? Let Bama have a down year this year, and the smell from the turd they layed at the end of last year won't go away any time soon. Some will wonder if Saban is worth the praise/raise.

Stoops and Mack always hear "can't win the big one" until they actually do win the big one, which buys them a few more years before the grumbles return.

Myer is riding as high as they come right now. Of course there's no "uneasy feeling".

If we have 10 plus wins this year, and are competative in all of our games, the Miles mannerisms, speaking style, and methods will seem homespun and charming once again.

Miles is in no different territory than any other high profile coach.

It's less about Miles' mannerisms than it is about a couple head-scratching losses, nail biting wins that shouldnt have been that close, and the deep down feeling of Saban-rejection. Saban basically popped the cherry of LSU fans and it is hard to get over your first love.
