1) New York
2) Chicago
3) San Francisco
4) New Orleans
5) ??????

I think the top 4 are pretty easy to figure out.
I would think the battle for 5th would be between Miami, Philadelhia, Dallas, Atlanta, Orlando

What do you think?

IMO, this depends on what you consider to be a "food city."

To me, a food city means the city has a unique food culture all its own as well as a wide selection of food options from everywhere else (including fine dining options).

In other words, I don't consider cities like Dallas or Vegas to be "food cities," although there are numerous 5 star/michelin rated places in those cities. Dallas feels like a cookie-cutter megacity to me. And Vegas is loaded with fine dining options, but that's where it ends.

Thus, I'll go with the following:

(1) NYC
(2) SF
(3) Miami
(4) New Orleans
(5) Chicago

NYC

Chicago

SF/NOLA/LA in any order works for me.

I agree, Clooney...not to mention, the quality of home cooking would factor in and the amount food is talked about and obsessed about...

Food cities would be NOLA, NYC, San Fran...

Better title for this thread would be top 5 restaurant scenes.

true, I was thinking more of the originality in regards to food/history/access to fresh ingredients of the cities mentioned.

You may be right. But I haven't spent much time there as an adult, so I can't include it on my list.

but then couldn't places like Honolulu or Juneau make strong claims? i mean i'm sure it's local ingredients, and tons of native dishes.

If you look on chowhound, the only cities with their own boards are:

San Fran
LA
DC and Baltimore
Chigaco
Boston
NYC
NOLA
Austin

At least these are the places that obsess about it.

I am not sure any city comes close to NOLA in obsessing about food. 90% of lunch/dinner conversations are about past meals or future meals.
