See how many pancake houses you can hit in one vacation.

I just signed up with the chamber of commerce to get info on the area. I received all kinds of flyers and mailers and it looks like the restaurant scene pretty much blows up that way.

Oh well, I will be going up there for the family and to let them see the great outdoors.

Not a bad place for families with kids. I reccomend the Greenbriar restaurant. It is up th mountain and down a winding road. Get a window table and enjoy. Steaks are the way to go, but you really won't be blown away. It is Tennesee, afterall.

Be sure to get a streamside room and open your windows.

We stayed at the Sidney James. It is not the Windsor Court, but an old motor lodge resort that was the bomb in '72. It does have streamside rooms (w/balcony), an indoor outdoor pool, and is up the hill from the fudge shops. The price is reflective of the place--cheap. We actually liked the place, but isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Been to Gatlinburg once...many moon ago. See Cades Cove!

As for food...There was a good steak place...think it was called Peddlers...they slice you ribeye or strip steak at you desired thickness at the table, and then bring it back to the kitchen to cook. I ASSUME it's still there.

Yeah, yeah, I know...when you assume you make an...

I always thought that if someone would open a real cajun restaurant there, with good louisiana style food, and had the waiters and waitresses really overdue the cajun "look" with bubba teeth and the like it would do really well there.

problem is real estate in the main parts is super super expensive.

lets do it. I already have the washboard.

if you have ever been to one of the truck stops in jennings, they have a huge alligator that is mounted standing on its hind legs. that would be awesome at the entrance.

heck, we could make it easy, just buy alot of stuff from heberts in maurice and just heat it up

I have a condo in Gatlinberg and have eaten all over the city at numerous places, including all the pancake houses.

The Pancake Pantry is good, but the Log Cabin Pancake House on Airport Road by Mr. Tablecloth is the BEST in the town. They are cheaper than Pancake Pantry and the food is better. Try the tropical pancakes or the pecans ones. It is heaven on a plate. The biscuits and gravy are wonderful too. There is also a location in Pigeon Forge right as you leave Gatlinberg.

The Alamo Steakhouse is good too, but a little pricey. The lunch prices are reasonable. On Friday nights, there is a guy who plays the violin.

As far as a good mix of food, the Smoky Mountain Brewery behind the Cherokee Grill (it is in a shopping center) is the best place to eat (and moderately priced). Be sure to get the pretzels with beer cheese.

Do not eat at No Way Jose. Terrible food. Linebergers is also disappointing. Cherokee Grill is expensive. Bennetts BBQ is not great either.

There is a place at 320 near Wears Valley Road (going on the road out of Pigeon Forge, it is immediately on left after turning on 320). It is called Apple Valley. There is a cafe there and everything is absolutely wonderful.

Sorry to say there isn't much good food in Gatlinberg.

I ate there in 1993 on my honeymoon (yeah, I know, honeymoon in Gatlinburg-redneck cliche). I thought I had arrived in adulthood because it was the first time I paid $50 for a meal in a restaurant.

It was quite funny watching the hillbilly next to me trying to figure out how the pepper grinder worked. He thought it was a shaker, so he jammed his keys into the bottom to free up the pepper. It was awesome.
