Maybe I'm confused on what you mean by "range." But playing characters with different jobs does not equal range. Sam Elliot is almost identical in every role he is in.
That's like saying Morgan Freeman has range. (though I think he has more than SE)

I've already given Depp his props, Oldman I completely overlooked but he is an outstanding choice. Bill Bob gets points for Slingblade, but I am trying to think of anything else that has stretched him.
