I know from looking around your board occasionally there seems to be mixed feelings about Jared Mitchell. If this is inaccurate please let me know. I just noticed today when listening to the game (as a Hog fan, I couldn't watch the beat down any longer and had other stuff to do) Mitchell somehow did not score on a double to the wall. Does this happen occasionally or what is the deal? Did he get careless and just not pay attention or is this a recurring problem. I also noticed he was replaced in the outfield in the next inning, coach must not have liked his "effort" much.

I also wanted to wish you guys luck in the championship series. After the Arkansas game(s) your Tigers better kill Texas next week or I will be very disappointed. With that said, good luck and can someone please shed light on Mitchell.

He was replaced because LSU was up 11-0.

wow im surprised you didnt notice that about every one of our base hits with RISP after the 7th inning, or the fact that our entire lineup got replaced too.. It wasn't coincidental

If you weren't watching, Mitchell didn't score because of the way the ball was hit. The right fielder looked like he had a bead on the ball the entire time. It hit off the wall, and that was the first time he was able to leave the bag. We (and our 3rd base coach) have already seen the cannon your right fielder has. Mitchell had the hold up signal.

As for getting taken out, we were up by a ton.

I am aware of what the score was, trust me I don't need another reminder. However, the radio broadcast said that the third base coach was sending him home, but Mitchell stopped despite being sent.

well the radio commentator was wrong. Javi clearly gave him the stop signal. Maybe he was pulling a Harry Doyle from Major League 2 "Too Drunk to care"

That is from the idiots that live here. You see, some of our "fans" tend to like to eat their own. Mitchell went into a funk where he couldn't touch left handed pitching, thus the call to send him to the bench. He strikes out a good bit, but he still draws tons of walks and is a threat at the plate.

From what you saw of him, who in their right mind would want that guy on the bench????

even all of LSU's best players, highly drafted in every spot, get ragged on by LSU alum

Russel #1 to oakland, dogged on the tigerrant
tyson jackson... underachieved supposedly
Dorsey... injured too much or something
Shaq... never won title at LSU
Mitchell... didnt round 3rd even though we were up by 10+
laron landry was well liked at least, Bowe too

they players make millions and millions for playing a game, but internet anonymous 'fans" just have to dog them, probally due to jealously.

personally i love all LSU players! (except lester earl... but i give a pass to RP cause of his SECTG performance

unless you go #1 overall, sigh for 100 million, bring 4 national titles, rantards will find fault in them. just get used to it

Fwiw the Sirius radio broadcasters speculated that Mitchell holding up could have been a sign of mercy, or "calling off the dogs"

Jared didn't break because he was unsure if it would be caught. Javi stopped him once he saw the delay by Mitchell.

The score was out of hand, so it was not a big deal. In no way would Jared show mercy.

You're spending too much energy on this.

This is EXACTLY how it appeared to me. No need in rubbing it in. Just play "station to station" baseball the rest of the way.

No. Jared did not pick up the ball. Javi Sanchez was basically showing him what he did wrong once he reached 3rd.

That's exactly the way I saw it. To answer the original question, we have not had a problem with Mitchell's effort. His baseball instincts at times are shaky, and if anything he can be too aggressive on the bases, although he hasn't been alone in that area. We all remember him scoring from 1st on a single to right. He clearly didn’t get a good read on that particular ball.

guys go beserk watching him at bat. He is so patient it can be excruciating. He will take a count to 3-2 over and over and over again without ever taking a swing. This is a gift. And he strikes out a lot. MOst fans do appreciate him -it can be frustrating watching him take pitch after pitch.

Mitchell can be a frustrating player to watch. He looks like a different hitter against LHP. His body language is awful, like he expects to get out. Against a righty, it seems he hits 1.000.

He strikes out a ton (63 in 211 AB) but also draws a lot of walks (53). That is ultimately good numbers, but it can be frustrating to watch. And his baserunning instincts are not top notch though he has such incredible speed. He's stolen 36 bases, but he's been caught 9 times.

He's got loads and loads of talent. And it's kind of frustrating that by the time he becomes the player he can be, he'll be wearing a pro uniform not the purple and gold. There's a reason he hits in the bottom of the order despite being a first round pick.
