Here is some of what I think I think about the LSU Tigers and the College World Series:

LSU is in the driver's seat -- think Toonces on a mission -- and hasn't seen Anthony Ranaudo or Louis Coleman pitch their best in Omaha.

Micah Gibbs is the most overlooked player on the best team in college baseball.

D.J. LeMahieu could play second base on his knees and keep his starting job.

Three days off is an awfully long time in Omaha.

Someone who has no future in professional baseball is going to make a memory to last a lifetime.

A lot of people are calling in sick Friday.

Derek Helenihi is the latest example of the importance of being patient and waiting for your turn.

Leon Landry is the next.

Zesto is a tad overrated, but so is everything else in life that is nonetheless a must-see, must-do.

Go. Experience it. Let yourself get sucked in by the folksy charm. It's worth it.

Paul Mainieri made a smart decision leaving Notre Dame for LSU.

Skip Bertman made a smart decision choosing Mainieri.

Mainieri thought he knew what he was getting into, but he didn't know like Mike Bianco and Jim Wells knew, and that's why Mainieri is where he is right now, three wins away from a national championship.

Nolan Cain has come a long way.

Jared Mitchell is fast, yes, but so was former Arkansas quarterback Matt Jones, whose long strides gave him deceptive speed. Mitchell looks fast when he runs, and that's why it's so much fun watching him motor.

You don't hear much talk these days about whether David Grewe is qualified to be a pitching coach.

The Tigers need to spend extra time every day in practice working on defending the short game. It will come in handy.

Joe Alleva has good timing.

The person who synchronized the traffic lights in Omaha should be invited to spend a week with Baton Rouge officials.

Tattoos last a lot longer than the whim to boldly imagine getting one. So do championships.

The program that closed one Alex Box Stadium and opened another in style is doing a pretty good job of making Rosenblatt Stadium's final seasons seem like the natural order of things.

Two outs and LSU batting? Coach, go to the mound and talk to your pitcher.

Michael Hollander moved to third base in 2008 to make room for LeMahieu at shortstop. LeMahieu moved to second base in 2009 to make room for Austin Nola. That's how you hold the rope.

LSU and Texas are headed for a border-war best-of-three championship series.

North Carolina made it exceedingly difficult for me to type the previous sentence. Keep an eye out ...

Pat Murphy is a hoot.

The ACC is on the verge of elimination -- again.

Coaches and players always talk about chemistry, but this team looks like it has it in surplus.

Of course, winning makes everything more pleasant.

Someone obviously misplaced the pronunciation guide LSU provides announcers before each game.

Before the end of his life, Ryan Schimpf will surely take to calling them "prawns," right?

LSU, which is 5-0 in national championship games in Omaha, has never played in the relatively new best-of-three championship series. For drama, I prefer the old way. For a truer test of overall team strength, the new way is better.

LSU won national championships in 1991 (gray), 1993 (white with pinstripes), 1996 (sunflower gold), 1997 (purple) and 2000 (white). It might be tough to keep the non-repeat fashion streak going.

We're getting a little ahead of ourselves here, aren't we?

I told you three days off is a long time.

Prawns = Shrimp. I assume the allusion is to the similarity between the name "Schimpf" and the word "Shrimp" and the fact that Schimpf is only about 5'9''.

(He's been having his name pronounced "Shrimp" by coaches, stadium announcers and talking heads for way too long. Sorry. Swing and a miss on my part. The rule is if you have to explain it, it's not funny.)

My guess is the ESPN guys are considered "pawns", and since they added an "r" to Schimpf's name, making it sound like "shrimp", he'll do the same and add an "r" to pawns, i.e. "prawns".
