Izzo's

Freebirds

Izzo's Illegal Burrito is the biggest ripoff of I have seen of any restaurant, except for maybe when Two Pesos was the exact same as Taco Cabana in all but name and the color of the restaurant.

Izzo's copies Freebirds World Burrito to an extreme.

I think if Freebirds wanted to, they could win a case of infringement of trade dress under the Lanham Act and for theft of trade secrets. That happens to be upheld by the Supren Court back in 1992.

Izzo's copies the look, the feel, the menu of Freebirds. The same attitude/atmosphere, air ducts overhead, layout, concept, sauces and 'vegan'-esque options.

Are they even good burritos? I doubt a knock off is that tasty.

I tried to go get my first one yesterday at the Metairie location. The line was back to the door so I passed on it.

I have had Freebirds before and they do indeed rock.

That place is a money making monster. Yesterday the ones in Metairie were closed in the evening for a company pic-nic. I passed by an area where there is a new place simply called " Strips" or something like that. Just chicken and catfish strips. Not a person was in there. Place will be out of business in 2 months.
It is strange how people are. I bet that place had better food at a cheaper price than canes too.

Listen up Jackalope-arse. Izzo's has been in business for several years and they have always had an exceptional product. Coming from someone who has something resembling a burrito on his anatomy(aka my junk)...I know good burritos. So you can take your arse back to Texas and eat your Freebird and they better watch out or Skynyrd is gonna sue them for using their crappy song title as the name of their franchise. Izzo's Rocks!!

That is like saying Burger King should be sued for copying the fast food hamburger idea and "atmosphere" from Mcdonalds or whoever first developed the generic indoors hamburger chain look.

Considering hundreds of Burrito places like these two chains existed before these two chains, I think your idea that they have a case against Izzo's is pretty out there.

I bet you are connected to the restaurant somehow. Family relation, investor, employee? I know you wont admit it, but its possible. Good for you, I'm glad you like knock off brands, I bet you wear foakleys and knockoff condoms for your 'burrito' appendage. More like a 'taquito', I bet.

Taco Cabana won the suit and ended up buying Two Pesos. It's called Trade Dress, and it's intellectual property.

I don't care if Izzos copies anyone, or that it is not "authentic" mexican food.

It tastes good and is filling.

I don't consider them the same.

With respect to the sauces and menu options, I've been to plenty of burrito places in California before there was ever a Cocopelli's, Izzo's, Qdoba in Louisiana. Many of them offered the same exact things.

A ripoff would be more along the lines of Cane's using an identical recipe for the sauce as the chicken finger place that Graves supposedly worked at.

brah, there are illegal burrito joints all over the country. I seriously doubt that Freebirds was the first of its kind.
