do you think him, being off today could be b/c he has thrown so many pitches his last couple of starts.

could be, or it could just be that he had Omaha jitters, starting there for the first time. Have to wait and see until next time to see if he improves.

It also didn't help that the strike zone was about one foot up and down.

Seriously, it made the game tough to watch. But the ump's strike zone was tiny for both teams at least.

Strike zone I think really fricked him up. We've seen a couple times where things don't go his way and he gets shaken a bit, usually pitching out of it. He had a couple of strikeout pitches that turned into singles or doubles because the ump was a piece of shite.
That said, UVA could hit the ball if he threw it in the damn dugout. I mean really, what pitch can those bastards not get a piece of?

i thought austin ross pitched well-er wait were talking about anthonry renaudo? cut out the initials thing. Pretty soon people will think RS is russell shepard instead of ryan schmipf or maybe the other way around

Looks like he is wearing down. He has thrown in the low 90s all year, but struggled to hit 90 the last two starts.
Don't think this is uncommon for many pitchers this time of year.

You're right.
Vs. Rice he barely hit 90 and was in the high 80's most of the day.
Against Virginia it was much of the same. We're talking about a kid who threw 10 innings last year and to have thrown 110+ this year is asking alot. His arm needs a rest and hopefully he'll get it after the CWS.
As long as he locates though he's good, being 6'7" has it's advantages.

hopefully his arm can withstand the CWS cause we're going to need him for at least two more starts if we want to win this thing.

Shouldn't have gotten that haircut! :-)

Against rice he was pretty outstanding even though he didn't hit in the 90's much. I think it is clear that he either just had a bad game, or he had the big game jitters. I vote for big game jitters.

He left everything up...maybe a delivery hitch. I'm sure he's fine.

It looked like he might have been overthrowing a little bit last night. Might of been adrenaline but still you got to wonder if throwing over 100 pitches his last couple of starts is starting to wear on his arm.

the gun disagrees. he was throwing 86-88 most of the night

Relative to the large majority of his outings, his velocity was way down.

I think it was nerves. But Virginia had some really smart hitters, they took him deep into the count almost every bat. He'll be ON next time, though.
