Skip Thrown Under the Bus - Is it True?

During the Bosox/Detroit baseball game tonight, Rick Sutcliffe blamed Ben Mcdonald's injuries during his pro career and general ineffectiveness on being overused at LSU? Is This true?

yes, skip overused alot of pitchers, but it worked

Ok, who is Rick Sutcliff?

+1 this was brought up in houston after the UT coach let the guy pitch 170 pitches. They were debating what the job of a college coach was. Bertman's name came up.

well, bianco learned from skip and he basically put pomeranz's arm through a shredder last weekend.

Yes. It was great for LSU. Not so great for some pitchers later in their careers.

Yep, I was just about to say the same thing.

FWIW in the context of the game and the season, I don't think either Wood or Belfiore were over-used in the game. But my opinion doesn't count for shite, even though both pitchers, their coaches, and the baseball america writers agree with me.

I don't agree with people saying that being over worked ONE game can damaged your arm. One scout said he was damaged goods give me a break. Alot of it has to do with pitching styles anyway, guys that us alot of their body in their throwing motion are gonna last a lot longer. Guys like Kerry woods were destined to destroy their arm.

i like how skip always gets this tag thrown on him like he was the only coach to ever do something like this.

They are right, but Skip is paid by LSU to win games not by MLB to prepare pitchers.

that was skip's only defense in the USA today article "well buh buh buh everybody was doing it." Atleast McDonald got his money, some others should prolly be living in Skip's house in Riverbend.

Well, Wood also threw 30 pitches the prior evening. 15 innings and 199 pitches over the span of a little over 24 hours is an awful lot.

The BA guys were saying that the Boston College coaches have been prepping Belfiore to be a post season starter, extending him a little more each game he threw toward the end of the season, so 129 isn't bad. And Wood had a no-hitter through 12.1, which would be damn near impossible if he wasn't conditioned to throw that long.
I agree with the point about Kerry Wood. Full body guys keep stress off the arm, like Lincecum (although he seems to be a freak of nature)

i actually wish someone would assasinate rick sutcliffe and it has nothing to do with what he said about skip. he makes a baseball unwatchable.
rick: did you see how posada framed that ball right there. that comes from being a veteran in this league. you dont see rookie catchers framing a ball like that. these are the little things that win you ball games. did i ever tell you my favorite person in the world is buddy songy because neither one of us ever shut the frick up?

True, but I'd counter that part of his and any other college coach's job is to watch out for the health and well-being of their players. To just use up a kid and throw out the carcass when you're done would be a pretty shitty way to run a program IMO.
