Helinihi or Hanover.

Hanover, but Helinihi has been clutch off the bench. Can't go wrong either way.

Hanover has been good all year both in the field and at the plate...but he committed 2 errors in clutch situations (Miss. State and Baylor games) these last couple of weeks.
I noticed he did not play Sunday vs. Minnesota.

He's had a few. I also saw something about him missing signals. Anybody know anything about that?

I wanna say he missed a bunt signal in the opening round game against vandy in the sec tourny

Not only did he miss the bunt signal, he then hit into a double play on the pitch. That's a good way to make sure that PM remembered that you messed up -- get a base hit instead and sometimes the coach forgets.

Hanover seems to be working himself into the doghouse. Aside from the critical error, it looks like he missed another sign or something. Mainieri was pissed during one of Hanover's AB.
I think Hanover starts Friday, but is on a very short leash.

My vote is for whoever can actually make a routine play look routine

Helinihi had a few problems making throws to first as well, although they were pretty tough plays. I don't think it matters which one is in, they are pretty even in my book.

Yeah but, Helenini didn't look so hot at 3rd base this past weekend either. Sailing a ball into the dugout and I think he had 1 more error other than that as well. That said, his plate presents seems to be much improved.

what kind of presents?

I vote Hanover. He just seems to be the better fielder. Yes, he made a few errors in the field, but at least I know he can make those plays. I'm not sure Helenihi has the arm to make the throws the 1st base he needs to.

I think PM wanted to give the senior the nod against Minn. in a game he thought was extremely winnable without a 3rd baseman.
Just don't see Helinihi starting, but I guess anything could happen.

I think Hanover has recently had 2 problems that raised PM's ire: first, there are the errors - and you've correctly identified that they occurred late in the season, and at Hoover, and last weekend. IMO, errors are part of the game. You don't wanna see them and they can be costly, but they will happen to the best.
Second, Hanover has struggled at the plate, recently, sometimes (not every time), but at key moments. At Hoover I believe it was, there was the missed signal thing - I believe he was signaled a hit and run and tried to bunt, then on the next pitch was signaled to bunt and he swung away...into a double play. That's college boy brainfart. What's more important however is that the luck of the draw has found him at the plate with bases loaded or 2 on, 2 outs, and he either strikes out or pops up. I've noticed him talking to his bat as he steps up to the plate, and would love to know what he's telling her.
At any rate, I think it's the overall combination that eats away at your confidence and makes PM look for alternatives. That said, PM has been known to give a kid a second chance, even putting them in at a high stakes moment or game, and letting them rocket themselves back out of a hole (case in point...Helenihi).
Great question my friend.

I say Helenihi. His bat is coming along while Hanover has gone backwards a little bit. It use to be impossible to get a fastball by Hanover now he is looking a little confused. PM will go with the experience.

Hanover has really surprised me, his MO out of high school was that he didn't make 1 error in high school, granted I know he was playing 2nd base, but still, he has made some errors on some very routine plays at 3rd. I think its all mental with him and has led to mental errors at the plate. He just needs to get a couple hits and get his confidence back. I say platoon Helenihi/Hanover. Whoever's hot gets the call.

Hanover for the first 7 innings. Helenihi as a late-inning defensive replacement. Mainieri probably should have been doing this all along.
