According to this LINK - look towards bottom of 1st page

quote:

Football coach Les Miles, among other LSU coaches at the event, said Harry Coleman, who moved from free safety to outside linebacker during spring drills, "will play and start" at that spot in the fall. Perry Riley will move to the other outside slot and Jacob Cutrera will start at middle linebacker, said Miles.

hmmm...is it possible that Miles meant that Coleman will "begin" at that position, and might move back to Safety?...Instead of "start" meaning "be in the starting lineup".....

We know if Miles says it then write it in stone.

Who said JJ will play vs Tulane?

It doesn't seem like Miles' style to come clean with this kind of information. I almost feel like it is more of Miles just misspeaking instead of Coleman already having earned a starting spot.

okay, from the title I thought this was going to be him starting at safety again. everybody thinks he'd make a better LB than safety, right? if he's good enough to start at LB, then so be it.

I don't think Riley has the speed for OLB. I would love to see him MLB. I like the Coleman move. He went from being a safety with average speed to an OLB with great speed.

I still think R. Baker will get a good amount of time. The LB situation will evolve quite a bit throughout the year imo

i dont mind trying something out against our first few teams (though i think 1 of them is vandy). chavis has done enough in his career for me to at least initially give him props to try what he will. im interested in seeing how all of this will turn out

edit:
just wanted to add, everybody on defense sucked last year, so im not going to jump to conclusions and say that someone sucks. now that we have a capable guy in control i think we can see what some of the underachievers of last year can really do

I'm pulling for Coleman and Baker on the outside with Riley in the middle. Maybe a bit small, but can run like hell.

Correct.

Riley in the middle with Coleman and Sheppard outside would be sick.

Maybe put in a bigger MLB for teams like Bama.

Here is the thing, Harry Coleman tackles great in traffic which is what LBs primarily do. As a safety when was on an island he'd always go for the kill shot, but when I saw him closer to the football he was very effective as a tackler. LB was his position in high school and he probably made the transition back with relative ease. I don't see what the big freaking deal is? We have a guy that excelled in the national championship game when they called is name off the bench as a sophmore. Now as a SR he is a starter and the rant can't handle it?

if they are startin Cutrera at MLB, they must see something, so I don't know what the fuss is about.
