Went to Primo's last night for the 1st time(was going to Sullivan's but changed mind as we passed Primo's).

That may have been the best filet I ever had (much less in BR).

My wife had the filet, I had the Alaskan King Salmon (also unbelievible).

Everything was beyond perfect except the asparagus. It was alittle too raw for me (or may have just been under seasoned).

We had:

off menu shrimp cocktail
filet mignon / potato casarole
king salmon w/ asparagus
lemon tiramisu (<<<<<<unbelievible)

PRIMOS has been hit and miss for me, I have had a couple of great meals there, but the one I remember the most was the worst and it pissed me off how horrible the Mgr handled it, but glad you had a great one there, maybe we will give them another try

Honestly...I am a meat snob...and I am sure I am gonna get hammered for this...but, off the top of my head....here is my restrnt top 5:

Little Village Steak Special (whatever it is)
French Market Bistro Filet
Tsunami's Sumo Ribeye
Ruffino's Filet (Almost same as Ruths)
Primo's

i have to leave off Flemings and Sullivans...because i have been there so many times when the product was sub-par.

You have Ruffino's as almost the same as Ruths, instead of Ruth's?

To me, there is only 3 - 4 places to get a great steak in Baton Rouge

Primo's
Chris's
Sullivan's

I have ad good steaks at other places, but nothing compared to these.

If I want a good ribeye, NY Strip, T-Bone (as good as most in BR) I go to Chris's Specialty Meats and make my own.

I cannot find a filet to cook myself as good as the three listed above.

Since the Ruth's was the first one in the chain, 1975, outside of New Orleans, and has set the bar for all the other Ruth's, do you still consider it a chain?

I agree.

I took the missus to Flemmings for our anniversary and it was great. They really are top-notch on the customer service, as well.

I am good with Ruths...really....I am good with Flemings and Sullivans....but to be honest.....i have had steaks at all 3 that were lacking flavor.

Flemings: the last experience at was horrible...Jeremy is a friend of mine, but it was what it was. I have eaten here dozens of times...and been pretty happy on most occasions. Albeit, I drink a good bit of vino while there, so sometimes my tasetbuds can be fooled. That being said, the last trip...My parents came in from out of town - we went to dinner......after our fiasco - my dad looked at me and said he would never come back. For the quality they want to provide......they are too hit and miss. Company dinner - perfect. Wife and I go to dinner for a good steak...not so much.

Sullivans: their quality has so dipped from when the guys brought them to BR. Great drink spot...will grab dinner on occasion. Wont be my destination steak joint.

Ruths....yes, I said what I said in a post above. But as all of the steakhouses that attempt to be on another level....I, personally, look for a different quality/experience. My mother has loved this place forever.....me, yes - its good....but for the same buck - I choose Ruffinos (almost same oven, similiar presentation of the steak). You asked me why....that is why. Ruffinos has always been consistant and worthy when I have eaten a steak. Ruths is a steakhouse...and Ruffins place is not. They still manage the accuracy on mondays and saturdays

dont shoot the messenger....just offering opinions

Are you saying Ruth's s a chain?

Ruth's in BR is a chain by name only. I have heard that Ruth's in other cities are not so good, but the one in BR (owned by TJ) is the best Ruth's in the country.

Some may laugh, but TJ Ribs (on Siegen) has a damn good filet, cooked obviously Ruth's style.

I have eaten it....good steak.

As Montana can obviously attest.....Ruffino's, TJs, and Ruths can create the similiar steak b/c of the equipment.......

like I said before...I like Ruths alot....but for the same steak, on a more consistant basis...I choose Ruffino's.

In TJs defense, I have not eaten a filet at Ribs but maybe once or twice....I go there for BBQ Shrimp on Mashed Potatoes....
