Let the man pay his own damn plane ticket. THIS is why we should have a rookie salary cap!

It's sweet in that they can't really get worse unless something bad happens to Calvin Johnson.

However, if Stafford gets in this year, he's going to look like the backup QB from Necessary Roughness who hides behind the ref and yells "Blow the whistle! Blow the whistle!" because he has little to no protection.

(Backus needs to go from the LT position, which is why I thought they should have grabbed Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe instead.

The QB crop next year's also *much* better than this one, so if they ended up in the top 5, they would have had a good chance at Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy.)

I honestly don't think much of Bradford and less of McCoy, when it comes to projecting to the NFL. We see how Gram Harrell has been projected thus far. I think the Lions will pick up an OT @ 20, such as Beatty.

That's a ridiculously large contract; I didn't expect the guaranteed money to be anywhere close to that, especially in light of the current economic conditions. He better hope they get him an OT with their other first round pick. He already has one of the best receivers in the game to throw to and a decent running back. Of course, they have no defense whatsoever, but one step at a time.

Let me put it this way... there's only three QBs considered to be decent prospects this year. I don't see Stafford or Sanchez as being superstars and I'm not sold on Freeman at all.

If I were them, I'd rather grab a bookend left tackle this year in Smith or Monroe, firm up the rest of the holes, then pick up a QB they can protect next year instead of having Stafford be a $70 million pinata.

+1
Backups at best. I think Sanchez has the most talent, but barely. He is a head case though and I dont think he will ever be superior NFL quality.
