I'm sure you didn't mean what I interpreted, and I agree with your overall point, but how does being at LSU make him not a D-1 caliber player? (FWIW, I'm assuming you mean -- and everyone else read this as -- that Jones was D-1 caliber but didn't have much of a chance at starting. I'm probably just being extremely semantic, so please, slap me if that's the case. >_>)

It took him a year to realize his coach was an idiot.

I think the reason is pretty much as reported. He wanted to go home

Baton Rouge is closer to Mobile than Auburn is, FWIW.

This had no bearing on it. It's solely a depth chart thing. For Miles to grant him a release to another SEC West school should sum it up for you. He wasn't as good as he's cracked up to be.

Even as an LSU fan, I am shocked that you could stoop so low. That is extremely offensive to roaches everywhere.

Normally when a college athlete transfers to another school, he is unhappy. Why is he unhappy?

That is the question. The obvious answer is he is not playing as much as he thinks he should. But it could be a multiple answer. Not playing enough, unhappy with the new staff, homesick, girlfriend, or academics. Probably not all, but possibly more than one reason.

Whatever the reason(s), it is very common for athletes to transfer, and it normally does not involve a key player. Sometimes it does. In this case, I think we can safely say that if Phelon had not started or even played next year, I don't think we would have been saying too much about why isn't Phelon playing? I guess it is that time of the year. Nothing else to talk about.

I understand Phelon and his family are good people, and he has proven that he can play. He will play somewhere. And I wish him the best. Its time for him and LSU to be moving on.

Was he granted a release that would allow him to transfer to Auburn?

If so, I wonder if maybe he wasn't nudged to transfer to make room for someone from this years class?

Bama4371, thank you for your input. We needed an Alabama idiot to come up with that response. What's wrong, you don't have an Alabama board that allows someone of your intellect to post?

I think he thought he would have broken into the starting lineup already at this point.

I read something like that yesterday. I think it was in the Advocate.

With some of the secondary problems last year, it is surprising he didn't get a chance to play more if he was good enough.

But I remember Saban telling young CB's who were upset about a lack of playing time. He asked them who are you better than that's on the field? At that time with Webster and Daniels starting they would say "No one." They would answer their own question.
