All we need is a "game manager" at QB

Most people who utter this meaningless phrase don't know what the frick they're talking about. Matt Mauck was no game manager. Dude made plays. He threw for a ton of yards and touchdowns and also turned the ball over a good bit. He was in no way a "game manager." He made plays. Good ones and bad ones.

Same for Matt Flynn. Dude made plays. A "game manager" would not have won the Auburn or Bama games in '07. Flynn had to consistently make big play after big play in the 4th quarter in '07. Calling him and Mauck "game managers" is insulting and does both of them and their legacies a disservice.

You can't win in the SEC with just a "game manager." There is undoubtedly gonna come a time when we are down by 6 with 2 minutes left and need to go 80 yards for a touchdown. And we are going to need somebody to step up and actually make plays, rather than just try not to turn the ball over.

Flynn threw 3 picks in the Bama game. Yet we still won (thanks to the Def). Doesnt make him sound like a game manager in that case.

Both QBs just found ways to win.

That's my point. He made all kinds of plays that game. Good ones for Bama the 1st half, good ones for us the 2nd half. He was the anti-game manager that day.

For the most part. So did Jamarcus, though. Just in a different style.

LSU also scored 41 points in Tuscaloosa in 2007.

Alabama did it this year with JPW as game manager

I think that kinda adds to the point of Flynn not necessarily being a game manager...I think.

did what? Not win the SEC and get embarrassed in the Sugar Bowl? Sure, they "did it."

We found out what happens when LSU tries to just use a "game manager" and run the ball every down, we get fricking stuffed and CS goes for 30 yards on 20 carries

Yea, that was my point, in response to the person who said LSU won that game because of the defense.

ok, I wasn't really trying to correct you. I don't really think the defense had much to do with LSU winning that game either, except for a lucky break at the end of the game.

amazing the difference a good defense makes. 7-5 vs 12-0.

The fact remains bunny, JPW didn't have very good numbers. You look at those stats and tell me that that QB's team had a 12-0 regular season and reached a #1 ranking and I'd tell you that you're nuts. Jarret Lee sucked as a freshman, just because JPW had better numbers doesn't mean he was too good either.

i think the last time LSU had a true game manager at QB was in the 80s

*ETA: i made a thread about this like a year or 2 ago and the most common reply was some guy from the 80s

Jay Barker would disagree.. as many of the Nebraska and Oklahoma QBs of the 70s and 80s.

Of course you need a great dfense.

IT appears that "Game Manager" Wilson is going to be drafted. According to one of the talking heads that are predicting selections, Wilson has been impressive.
