So I went for the first time Sunday... it was good but I don't have to go back anytime soon. It feels like you're eating in another city. The portions are huge and kind of ridiculous but I think that's why some people like it. My omelette was good but I had to take off the gob of cheese on top that was overkill. My husband got eggs benedict and they used a huge hamsteak which he said actually threw the taste of the dish off because of the increased salt taste. His eggs were cooked perfectly though. I don't really care for their call ahead policy, but I guess if you use it then you like it. Overall I thought it was pretty pricey for breakfast...$$ for eggs? Anyway the service was quick and I actually liked that you got your own pitcher of water. Well while I am glad for BR to have another breakfast option I don't hve to go back. It does have quite a following and wish it continued success!

I agree that a lot of the dishes are overkill. I've been there a few times and experienced it in one way or another every time. I did like the Eggs Blackstone, though.

My husband and I tried the place for the first time about 2 weeks ago - it was o.k., nothing special and I thought a little pricey for breakfast. The place was pretty empty when we went - Fri morning around 8:00 - 8:30.
I was a little surprised when my husband order eggs over easy and the waitress asked, "do you want the white cooked?" I never heard that asked before, my husband hadn't either, he said "I want my eggs over easy" and she asked the question again, so he said, "I want the yellow runny and the white cooked." The eggs came out and the white was cooked, but they yokes were cooked mostly hard with very little gooey-ness - he sent them back and he never sends things back. Again he got the question about the whites, and he said, I don't really understand what you are asking, I want my eggs over-easy, the waitress kept saying, they just know in the back, whites cooked or not cooked - he told her make they yellow soft and the whites kinda cooked - then they came back right the second time.
The bacon was good, thick and crispy, a little over-cooked but not bad.
I thought the grits were runny, but my husband said he like them, that they were creamy.
I liked the hashbrowns, my husband said they were good, but too spicey for breakfast.
My waffle was excellent.

This is my problem with it. It is good but a bit extravagant for breakfast. They didn't even have any true low end options either, if I remember correctly about $5 - $6 was the least amount you could get away with. I think they fit well in their niche, I just have to think that in this economy that niche is doing about as well as Starbucks.

This is disturbing on many levels. Who ever eats uncooked whites? I think the waitress was confused. For their prices, there should be no confusion.

I like the place and they do the grillades and grits perfect. Price wise they are about the same as any of the hotels and about the same as Christina's downtown. Upper end but not out of line.

I always ask for basted eggs with a runny yolk and they have gotten it correct most times. It doesn't take much to cook the yolk so I wouldn't be too upset if they cooked it too much. Sending it back is an inconvienance but a short order cook is a tough gig to get right all the time.

Overall I like it and am a fan. I hit it about three or so times a month. Breakfast in BR is hard to find.

Now if they would reopen that O Neil location for lunch and dinner I'd be happy.

What your husband really wanted was eggs over medium.....That's the way I like em...white cooked...Yellow runny. We order easy over because few places cook them right and we sure don't want the yolk cooked...a true professional breakfast cook would give you some runny whites if you order over easy...not as runny as sunny side up but somewhat runny...But if I don't know the place...I order easy over...I can deal with the whites a little runny...but I can't deal with the yolk cooked....That's why I usually order a steak rare(if It's a new place) I want it med rare...but I can deal with rare easier then med.....wow, did that make any sense?

Yeah that make sense. We both like our eggs like that and we've both been ordering them over easy for ever and I never had anyone ask do you want the whites cooked. Neither one of us ever send stuff back, but paying $9 for some eggs, you want them to at least resemble what you ordered. No hard yellows, that is just a completely different taste and texture.

If they aren't right by all means send them back. I do. Like I said above a short order cook is a hard job and eggs are easy to get away from you.

I guess what I'm saying is send them back and make them get it right but don't be too hard on the cook with the mindset "it's just eggs." Eggs are pretty temperamental and I've had my fair share of over/under cooked eggs.

My father in law was telling me about this place he hits in Texas that can make him "soft" scrambled eggs like he likes. You ain't gonna find that too often.

My wife and I went a while back and weren't too impressed and probably weren't going to go back. Her family came in town and this was really the only place that could accomodate such a large party. The service was behind a bit and totally forgot my father-in-law's order, but the food was exponentially better this time. I thought it was down-right good. I had Lafitte's Tortilla. It is like a breakfast burrito and granted, that's pretty hard to mess up, but it was good. I think we'll try it again to see if anything improves.

Damn, I thought I was the only person on this board that didn't care for the place... I agree that I'll probably try it again, though no one has offered any suggestions of anything to get, that I haven't already tried and found to have been subpar. I liked the Eggs Blackstone, but I can easily make the same thing at home.

The one in Lafayette has a Cajun Tuna sandwich that is awesome. Tuna steak with lemon-tomato mayo, cucumbers, tomatoes, and sprouts.

i like the place and eat there like martini, about three times a month .. i just still think he bit off more than he could chew with the price of the jefferson location and it killed the o'neal spot, which had potential ... but, my boy, broken egg cafe, would never admit that ..

That sounds pretty good, I'm going to have to try it next time I pass through.

Just looked at my credit card bill and we paid $30 for 2 people to eat BREAKFAST, that is pretty pricey. My husband had eggs, I had a waffle and we ordered 2 extra sides and 2 cups of coffee.

You should see my bill after I put back half a dozen bloody mary's.
