Leon Landry not getting it done as leadoff hitter

why in the world does maneri ever have him at the leadoff spot. he never has good at bats and strikes out more than anyone on the team. he falls behind in the count almost every single time he goes up to the plate. jared mitchell, in my opinion, should definitely be the leadoff guy. i believe his OBP is well over .500

Hoping the move back to the top would give him some energy going into the game. Maybe a little bit of confidence from the coach would carry over to Leon. It didn't work, but it's worth a try. He's a special player and we have to let him work his way out of this slump.

I understand that, but I have thought Mitchell should have been the lead off guy from day one. His work on the bath paths is another reason he should be the guy.

Clearly you are talking about his defense.

lsufball19, I agree with you 100%, I just do not understand what PM is doing with Landry. He is unable to get on base and his OB% is just horrible. PM really seems to be hard headed on this one. JM should be the lead off hitter. PM is just riding a dead horse into the ground.

Landry is not in a slump. Dean was in a slump coming into today. Dean makes contact with the ball a lot with very few stikes outs. Hes just had unfortunate ball placement. Landy just cant find the ball at all and has developed a terrible eye for the ball.

Landry wasn't a good hitter last season. He was one of our biggest hindrances on the offensive side of things during the postseason run. Just because he hit a few homeruns early this season, people think he should be the best hitter on the team. When obviously that's not going to be the case.

Watching him hit, he rarely even makes many good cuts at the ball. He looks silly on a lot of pitches, just kind of flailing the bat at the ball. I wonder if he can bunt, because that might an option to get him on base or at least move runners over instead of striking out.

PM should have pinch hit for him today when we had runners on & they brought in the lefty

I'm not sure about this. He pulls off on every ball I've seen him swing at. If he actually pisses on one fat, it's going to go 500 ft. from home, but about 50 ft. foul.
I'd try closing my stance a bit if I were Dean.

because he and the team was on fire the first 9 games when he lead off.

Landry is also a severe liability when facing lefties. I am pretty sure his BA against the lefties is horrendous

yea, he does pull out a lot..which is good for preventing pregnancies not so much for hitting a baseball

IMO Mitchell is a better lead off hitter because he has a much greater ability to get on base in a variety of ways. Obviously, batting lead off is not about hitting home runs. The goal of a lead off batter is to get on base in any way possible in addition to allowing the rest of the team to get a feel for what the pitcher while he is at the plate.
With that said, J. Mitchell could significantly improve with his patience at the plate. He has been much better this year drawing walks, but his OB% could be off the charts if he could simply lay off the shoulder-high fast ball. Increased patience coupled with his freak speed on the bases could be even more potent that it already is at this point.

quote:Yeah, He will end up being the leadoff guy later in the year like he was last week. PM is still just switching around the lineup to check everything out. He's trying to see who does better where. In a few weeks or a month or so, the lineup will be set.
IMO Mitchell is a better lead off hitter
I say it goes-
1.J.Mitchel LF
2.R.Schimpf 2B
3.B.Dean DH
4.S.Ochinko 1B
5.DJ.Lemahiu SS
6.T.Hanover 3B
7.M.Gibbs C
8.L.Landry CF
9.M.Mathock RF
