I view this year's Vol recruiting as a boon to LSU, but for the JJ deal. We need the Vols to develop into a program like Florida. We play Florida EVERY year and Bama plays Vols every year so it is in LSU's best interest if Vols stop sucking.
I agree that it helps LSU. But I can't bring myself to root for such a douchebag.

Sadly, I don't see that happening with this coaching staff.
Agreed. It is in our best interest that UT be competitive.........

Nick Saban was a failure as an NFL coach. Steve Spurrier was a failure as an NFL coach.

A very unsucessful NFL coach.
Spurrier was terrible in the NFL too. The NFL and NCAA are not the same.

But they had success before going to the NFL.

But Kiffin hasn't had success on any level as a head coach. We'll all have to wait and see how it turns out. The others had NCAA success before going pro.

Damn Lane Kiffin and Tennessee. I will not pull for an arrogant prick like him. I hope they continue to suck and within 3 years replace the jackass with someone I can respect. Then and only then will I pull for the volunteers.
We should be concerned about beating Alabama ourselves... especially in our own barn ... not about what Tenn does against them.
And I'm spent.

You have to remember when Coach Kiffin was at USC he was national recruiter of the year...At Oakland he was in a no win situation...Many of the Oakland fans were upset they fired him as they thought he had them moving in the right direction..Everybody has an opinion on that but he CAN coach as he's been around his entire life...He's assembled an incredible staff so what they have done in 3 short months is nothing short of amazing...I know You guys are going to say things like the NCAA is gonna come knocking and crap but you know that's not the case...You guys are loaded anyways, No loss for You....YET...It's only the beginning

All of those minor violations reported and in the media would make me nervous.
Picked up a great back though. Two of them.

These players know that they can get early playing time at UT. Thing is, who is going to block for Brown? They have no QB either.

Not taking anything away from the man, but it this a personal feat of his or do you think recruiting at USC (no matter what your name is) might garner consideration for this award?

Um, I didn't see much of this going on.

Still very, very, very unproven.

Well Kiffin addressed that when he was hied about USC and is it hard to recruit there and he said that the season he came there, They went 6-6 and not one 5 star recruit on the team...He said it was not as easy as people think to get kids to go there...USC was down for several years before Carrol and Kiffin and Coach O got there...But they were always a sleeping giant and have great tradition.

And as far as those minor recruiting violations go, EVERY school has those...Even LSU, But 99% of them never make the press as they are not even important...Ours got brought out in the open because of what Kiffin said about Meyer...That's all
Posted on 3/16/09 at 2:18 pm to VOLnMiami
But even you'll admit that was a tenuous beginning to life in the SEC? I don't care how much you're trying to impress your (new) fanbase...there was just a serious disconnect between Kiffin's brain & mouth to even suggest what he did. Not to mention some of the other "shady" things during recruiting season that came out about him.
The bottom line is that TN has plenty to be excited about, but y'all should still be slightly reserved when it comes to Kiffin's coaching prowess; up to this point, he hasn't really proved that he can.

Nobody wins 5 games and gets the kind of recruits that Tenn got in such a short period of time...something fishy is going on here!

Maybe, maybe not. What I can say is that he won't get away with it if he cheated. He has pissed off a number of influential coaches with his mouth. If he accomplished this honestly, more power to him, even if he is an arse. If not, UT is going to be in the news a bunch over the next year, and not the good kind of news.
