They planted too late. Didn't get enough time to fully settle/mature before the first practices and games. Thus, they needed to add some sand filler to help the growth.

Lots of foot traffic in that area too, obviously.

LSU's Ath-Dept needs George Toma on their speed dial, cut a check, get him down to BR for a month.

40M New Upper, and yet we still have bald spots on the field, and Gatorade lime-green LSU endzones instead of canary yellow on gamedays.

Here we go again with this shite. I knew it was only a matter of time before there was problem with the grass at the new Box. What did yall expect? I'm sure the same incompetent and clueless clowns that can't grow a thick and durable turf in Tiger Stadium are the same ones that work the field for baseball.

Nothing will ever change until Alleva hires a Professional Turf Manager to oversee all the athletic fields. Don't know what the problem is and why the man won't pull the trigger and make this hire.

In their defense, it IS hard to get a new athletic field deeply rooted in cool and cold weather, but an experienced turf guy will know just exactly what to do to minimize the grass loss.

Oh well, bring on the dirt, sand and paint. Dirt, sand and paint are more valuable to the Bozo LSUAD groundskeepers than Gold. Throw some dirt down, sprinkle some sand on top and paint it green. Only at LSU. .........

good lord man, get a hold of yourself. The mighty University of Texas had so many problems with their turf at Memorial Stadium that they are changing back to artificial turf next year. If i'm not mistaken, you people are bitching about a three foot swath of turf around the edges of the batters area. wtf is wrong with some of you goons?

Hey I'm a turf guy from LSU. I could get it right but they won't call me. I've been trying to help out for 20 yrs.

I read somewhere right before the new Box opened that they used the same turf as they do in TS. I thought ...

In 2005, when the Saints played in Tiger Stadium, the NFL brought in Toma to look at our turf. When I spoke to him on the sidelines, he told me it was the worst he had ever seen.

The Bermuda has not come out of dormancy yet. That is why it looks patchy. In front of home plate and the sidelines will wear fast because that is where a lot of traffic is during practices.

I am not saying that they will have it under control during the season, but that is the problem right now.

I was in Hammond Tuesday and saw the last third of the game at Southeastern. I noticed that their turf looked better than the turf at Alex Box. And then last night I see all the sand around home plate. BTW, they also had some sand around the first and third base coaches' boxes, but it wasn't quite as noticible.

shite the entire field looks pretty crappy right now not just high traffic areas. The sand had a major effect on the game last night too. MVST was bunting right into it and we couldnt get to it.

The sand is there for topdressing. You will find it on all fields about this time of year. It is part of the process.

Grass does not stay green year round, some of you need to understand that. We haven't had enough warm weather to pull all of the Bermuda out of dormancy. If The Box looks like this in the middle of April, then we need to bitch and complain.
