Starting it pretty early

Or are we playing a day game?

Either way I dont mind.

Strider will be making his first start of the season in either game 1 or game 2 against the Rockies

Mattingly named interim manager for Phillies. Acuna can prepare for higher and tighter fastballs from the Phillies rotation.

I can see the Mets firing Mendoza so soon with Alex Cora being on the market now. A lot of teams are going to be throwing money at Cora

Baseball America’s prospect hot sheet featuring the hottest 20 prospects features 2 Braves this week.

John Gil coming in at #16 and as you probably guessed if you follow our minor league guys Eric Hartman coming in at #2!

Hartman hit 5 home runs last week alone and had a slug over 1.000 which I thought was mathematically impossible.

Predictions are saying after our next draft which we have some good picks in and the next international signing pool period that we will jump up to somewhere between 12-16th in prospect rankings.

FWIW we ended last season ranked 28th

Why are these teams who ar spending big bucks firing their managers? We’ve been told the goal was to spend money because spending money is the only way to win.

Huh?

Spending money isn't bad. We're a top 10 payroll. Spending money and losing is bad.

Not spending money and losing is bad too.

Think of it like raffle tickets, spending more money gets your more raffle tickets giving you more of an opportunity at winning.

This season has been really interesting though especially as we are heading into a lockout most likely where spending gaps is one of the biggest issues

The top 12 payrolls are

Dodgers
Mets
Yankees
Jays
Phils
Braves
Astros
Cubs
Padres
Detroit
Giants
Red Sox

So the 4 best teams in baseball are 6,1,9,3

The 4 worst teams in baseball are 2,5,7,12

It appears its not money thats the primary ingredient for winning, But the quality of an entire organization from front office, to scouts, to analytics, to trainers, etc.

How you spend your money is what matters not just spending money.

Also you have the Reds who are playing very well ranked 20th and the pirates also playing well at 23.

The As are winning their division at 26

Fangraphs payroll breakdowns

Btw the Marlins in last place spending just 73 million with only 5 million of it commited beyond this year into 2027 made me laugh out loud

The point is a team, say the Braves, has a GM who is paid a lot of money to put a team on the field and has won a World Series, yet there are some fans every off season who accuse him of doing nothing and claim the team will not be good. Look where we are.

Sometimes the best move is to stand still. Our pitching staff has been outstanding and this is without Schwellenbach, Waldrep, Strider, and Fuentes. Yet, some whined all off season how we should spend on another starter, etc etc.

AA has made the right moves. The Dodgers are an All Star team and no one is stopping them but AA has built a staff that could challenge them. But, I’m a happy Braves fan knowing we don’t have years a hundreds of millions tied up in Kyle Tucker or Juan Soto.

We had an A+ off season

I was pretty pissed we didnt sign Chris Bassit after Schwelly went down before Spring Training even started and the contract he ended up signing with the Os was very reasonable at 1 yr 18.5 million while being one of the most reliable 150 IP+ with a 3.5-4 ERA guys around, but I was wrong and AA was correct.

Major shocker

He has a 6.75 ERA with a WHIP over 2 and has only pitched 20 innings in 5 games.

Walt Weiss gives details about a slew of injured players in his pre game press conference. Battery power has the full write up ill link below but ill quote some from it

Battery power

quote:

Meanwhile, Murphy has been struggling a bit at the plate during his rehab stint. He did pick up three hits on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Miami’s Triple-A squad) but those were also the first three hits that he’s collected so far on rehab after going 7 games and 19 plate appearances without a hit and just one walk. As such, the Braves are giving Murphy a little more time and according to Weiss, it’ll be “4-to-5 more days” before they’ll re-evaluate his status.

quote:

Iggy is reportedly back throwing again and his shoulder inflammation has “subsided” so this should indeed just be a minimal IL stint for Atlanta’s high-leverage reliever. Please tell me he’s learned how to sleep in a normal position.

quote:

Waldrep will be throwing his first bullpen session since having surgery on his elbow to remove those infamous “loose bodies.” The bullpen session will take place within the next few days. In fact, we actually got a bit of a timeline for Waldrep, as McAuley reported that the Braves are apparently targeting June as a possible time for Waldrep to get back into game action.

quote:

We also got a timeline for Schwellenbach as well but that one is a lot more nebulous. Schwellenbach still isn’t throwing yet and Weiss told the media that he’s expecting a return after the All-Star Break. So this is very much a long-term situation for Schwellenbach.

Lineup for tonight is:

Ronald Acuña Jr. (R) RF
Drake Baldwin (L) C
Matt Olson (L) 1B
Ozzie Albies (S) 2B
Michael Harris II (L) CF
Austin Riley (R) 3B
Dominic Smith (L) DH
Mauricio Dubón (R) SS
Mike Yastrzemski (L) LF

Harris back in CF
