I have gone and done something that none of you have asked for (again): I have built a massive playlist that tells the complete story of the most destructive conflict in human history.

It starts with Epic History TV’s outstanding 5-video series on World War I, because you can’t understand WWII without seeing just what a complete shite show the world was in 1918 when the guns finally fell silent. From there it flows straight into TimeGhost History’s excellent “Between 2 Wars” series (58 episodes) that takes you year-by-year from the aftermath of the Great War all the way to the final hours of peace in late-August 1939.

Then we hit the main event: the World War Two channel’s legendary “WW2 in Real Time” week-by-week series, with the outstanding companion series War Against Humanity (Spartacus Olsson laying out the civilian cost and war crimes committed by all sides) perfectly interwoven throughout. Other sub-series such as On the Home Front, Spies & Ties, Pearl Harbor Minute-by-Minute, and D-Day 24 Hours are also included. Everything is in strict chronological order so you really feel the war as it unfolded across the globe.

At 647 videos and roughly 350–450 hours of top-shelf content, this playlist is obviously huge. I don't think a year of college courses on the subject could compare to the amount of information it contains. So, if you’ve ever wanted to go way beyond the usual documentaries and really immerse yourself in the military campaigns, the home fronts, the politics, the economics, and the horrifying human cost…this is it.

Link below. Enjoy the rabbit hole, gentlemen.

I started watching your playlist, but if you want more depth about WWI, Dan Carlin’s “Blueprint for Armageddon” is highly recommended. Carlin can be long winded sometimes though (the entire series is about 24 hours)

It got recommended on YT to me when they were just a couple weeks into 1939. I religiously watched every week until the end of WW2. It would be nice to have a physical copy of that series if something ever happens to YouTube.

Carlin is good but if you're looking for a more visual medium, I recommend the YouTube channel: The Great War. The channel's week-by-week series (which ran from 2014-2018) was done by the same people who are featured in my playlist above.

Check it out if you haven't seen it:

For those who find Carlin annoying, Darryl Cooper is doing WW1-WW2 from the German perspective

Yeah, OP selections are fantastic. I've seen a bunch of his suggestions and they're great.

But for someone going on a long drive, or something to play in your ear buds during slow time at work, "Blueprint" and "Ghosts of the Ostfront" are awesome. "Ghosts" is all about the Eastern Front that we as Americans don't learn about in the standard history classes of school before college. The Eastern Front was a totally different beast than what the allies took part of in the west.

Apocalypse WW1 is hands down the best overall video series on the Great War; Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by the History Channel is a great two episode series on Germany during WW2

Wrong. Your education follows:

According to the tankers in the Brit Sherwood Rangers armored unit, their nearly 20 RPM firing rate with the short 75 made the crews of the handful of running Tigers and Jagdpanzers they ran into quit after the first 4-5 hits and bail out. Any who stuck it out got the business from the Sherman Firefly that usually was at the end of their column, but not many did.

The Russians used Shermans in their elite Guards units that spearheaded their attack into Germany. They didn't care for the Grant/Lee, but the Sherman was GTG with them.

High profile - well, if 4" taller than a Panzer IV is "high", ok, but not really. The Sherman was narrow, not tall.

You’re going to have to be more specific. Speaking a single tank versus tank duel:

Pz. I - III: Sherman is clearly better.

Pz. IV: pretty even, really comes down to the crew. If we’re talking Pz IV Ausf. F or later, the Pz. IV will have an advantage in its 7.5 Cm kwk L/43 main gun, at least until the M4A1 Sherman’s started rolling off the production line with the high-velocity 76mm main gun which lessened that advantage.

Pz. V: Sherman has a distinct disadvantage in armor and firepower. Only real chance the Sherman has is get close and hit the flanks. The Sherman, even one with a 76mm, had no chance of penetrating the sloped frontal armor of a Panther at anything more than point blank range.

Pz VI (Ausf A & B): Sherman crew should pray. And while praying thank the Lord the Germans only had a small handful of them.

As for the OP, good work 87! I’ve seen all the Time Ghost videos. But I’ve not watched the WWI ones from Epic History. I’ll have to get to rectifying that the next time I sit down at my model desk. Thanks for putting this together.
