I've cook in a few crawfish competition seem like every-time whoever bring the most win people's choice. Most don't have a judge panel and seem very unfair to me. The winner's crawfish can't even peel right.
Which cookoff is legit with real judges in Baton Rouge?

We (MBS Parish) are hosting a Crawfish boil - Battle For The Paddle on Saturday 05/02.
30 or so teams - we have judges and will award a Crawfish Champion, 2nd and 3rd Place, a People's Choice Champion and a Lagniappe 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

I only pay attention to people's choice votes. Judges vote is like rolling rice.

People's Choice is a popularity contest. Judging table is truly a crapshoot. The one cookoff I participate in every year they often get media personalities to judge, many whom are from out of town. Need I say more?
The one constant is the judges seem to like salt. There is no way I will boil much less enter a batch of crawfish that I wouldn't eat myself, yet that is what seems to win.
I'm OK with that.

That just seems like simple math to me. Are these fundraising cookoffs or actual cookoffs?

Good lord, this was painful to read.

Is it possible that your crawfish are not good?

That's because their taste buds go numb and extra salt gives them a kick and wakes them up. Causes the flavor to stand out.
Most professional competition cooks readily admit that their competition cooks are different than cooking around the house for that reason.

I went to a crawfish cookoff at St. Dominic's in Lakeview a few weeks ago. There were 25-30 different booths. We got seven tickets to use to vote. There was clearly one that was the best to me but walked out with the tickets forgetting to vote.
It seems the biggest issue was when waiting on the next boil to finish with people waiting in line they weren't soaked long enough so they came out blander then their first boil.
I can see more salt than you would normally would benefit in these scenarios.
