Does water not gush out of a fitting when the hydrant is removed?
I assume they are stealing them to sell for scrap? There was someone who tried to sell about 120 manhole covers. They were stamped with Northport Water Works (Northport is a small community next to Tuscaloosa). These idiots had gone around the night before and removed them from streets and then tried to sell them. Of course there were numerous cars that had damage when they drove over holes left by the missing covers.
People are stupid.
