What are the top brands for a Class "A" RV
* Thor
* Winnebago
* Jayco
* Coachman
* American Coach
Is there anything to look for when buying a Class A motor home? I'm looking for a ~ 30' Class A.

Call the RV Shop in Baton Rouge - ask for Briggs

Yeah you might want to do some research on Thor and it's subsidiaries, ranked some of the worst around and their customer support (factory level) is not there.
If you are looking at 30 either go super C or a little larger for a diesel pusher.

Same Briggs that used to work at Import One?
I was wondering where he went.

2020 and newer Thor Rvs are hit or miss. Some are very good and some are trouble from the first trip.

Dunno who makes the Tiffin pushers, but I'd stay away. Neighbor dropped well over 350k on one that had an electrical gremlin from day one. They fooled with it for months trying to find it. Called him to come pick it up and handed him a box of 30 amp fuses and said "Sorry, we can't find the issue"

Tiffin and Newmar. I had one of each with no issues.

My boss has a $2.5 million dollar Prevost and it’s the same story.

Tiffin was supposedly pretty good until they got bought by Thor Industries...
There is a lady on YT called "Liz Amazing" who helps new RV buyers with problems get them resolved... sad what crap they often are.
Dealers and manufacturers aren't very good over all...

Have you ever rented or owned? You gotta do that first. Doesn't matter what class or length or whatever, obviously as close to what you think you want.
But rent 2-3 before buying if you are going to buy new and buy expensive. It will teach you a ton about them.
Just take them on some normal trips like an overnight to a local campground. Park it at the grocery store to buy food for the trip, etc.
Drive it down the road and the interstate.

by all means rent first
decide to go either gas or diesel next. big difference in pricing for the same square footage
do not buy new. the first year of motorhome ownership is spent fixing warranty problems, most of your time will be waiting for shop time. Most owners do not use the rv much at all. Low milage ,5000 miles are readily available less than 3 year old at great discounts.
buy from ppl Houston with your offer 25% less than listed. ppl buyers do great, ppl sellers get screwed several ways.
you will need a toad, make sure its a easy 4 wheel drive to connect/unconnect

it doesn't matter the cost of the rigs, sooner or later they ALL have some kind of issue whether it's leaks or stuff just breaking. I worked as a finance guy in the industry for a few years and I've seen various scenarios evolve. Enough so that I tell folks don't buy it, rent it! All seriousness though, the production of these things will blow your mind, brand new from factory full of defects. Definitely don't buy anything made during the covid era, same goes for boats. The folks in the factories were replaced by many less skilled individuals and the quality of the work showed for sure. Just my 2 cents
But, if you're hell bent on buying one, I would get the Super C made by jayco as one of the other posters suggested.

Winnebago’s roof construction sucks.
None of them are (prevost excluded) are built to last anymore.
They all went cheap on materials/quality a few years before COVID. Got worse after COVID.
Buy used whatever one you pick. Depreciation is worst than a boat, and previous owner will have dealt with all the warranty shite.
You can seriously get a nice used Prevost conversion for what you would pay new for any of the cardboard boxes on wheels on the market today. It will also outlast you.
Having said all that, get a diesel the air ride and resale are better. Buy the layout you like most of all, and always go bigger than you think you “need”. You would be very surprised how much more room a 40 ft has vs a 35 ft.

I now you mentioned a class A but give Renegade RV's a look, the only problem is they make class C's and super C's.
They have about the best reviews of any RV brand plus there is a dealership in Baton Rouge.

Just know they are going to make a fortune off of you. I work for a lender for rv dealers and the mark up on any drivable rv is laughable. I’m talking $60k-$120k above dealer invoice. They rattle apart the minute you drive off the road. It’s a dying business.
