Sears will forever be etched in history as a retail giant. Them failing is inevitable as amazon arose (along with lowes, home depot, and walmart)

The truth comes out….no surprise here.

Sears used to be the go-to store in every town large enough to have a mall.

Easy to blame private equity but the truth is once growth stalls, original owners are almost never willing to make the cutbacks necessary to keep smooth operations going and end up selling while they can.

PE just starts squeezing the juice and accelerating the process that was already underway.

Sears sold quality stuff. I have these at my camp and they still work.

Sears & Roebuck: Amazon a hundred plus years before Amazon was even an idea.

Research papers and doctoral theses will be written about the rise and ultimate downfall of S&R.

If I remember correctly, Sears used to sell a an inventory that was largely produced domestically.

They were the first mail order business, so they could have fit perfectly in the internet sales market. However, they couldn’t have competed price-wise with products produced overseas.

My favorite quote of all time was in Jeff Foxworthy's roast Greg Giraldo makes fun of Bill Engvall and goes:

"He's got seven comedy CDs and without Bill, Sears would have no comedy section."

That's all I got.

There’s a ton of them around here

Only like 8 of the big colonial mansions supposedly still exist though. I know there’s one on Lake Washington in Glen Allan, Ms that’s decaying away
