My dad keeps asking me. He just went to the Western Museum in Cody, WY and is in a mood.

He’s seen Old Henry, what in the past 10-15 years is a good rec. Are there any?

For reference, he and my mom love John Wayne, Eastwood, and fun ones like Silverado, all the classics.

Any of those hidden gems out there or are they all bleak like Hostiles (which he’s seen) and Old Henry?

Has he seen 3:10 to Yuma and Open Range?

I'm actually interested to see what the board has to say. I'm not sure I've seen a good western since the two listed which means I guess I haven't watched a new western in 20 years.

Gran Torino - a western in spirit IMO. Loved Eastwood in this one.

He’s seen 3:10, Open Range, Turino, the others mentioned up until this point.

I gave him this one and The Salvation, anyone seen The Salvation?

Deadwood yes. And for the folks who whine about season 3, you are wrong. It ended about the only way it could end given the historical context. yes they played loose with facts with the minor characters but Hearst isn't a minor character. I like the ending. Well except what happened to precipitate the ending. All who disagree suck cock by choice.

True Grit remake. No. Bridges had a big bag of marbles in his mouth and sounded distractingly ridiculous. And I don't care about it being a remake because I wasn't a huge fan of the original. For some reason I hated this remake.

American Primeval was badass. It’s about the Mormons pretending to be injuns and the almost war with the American military. 3 or 4 part ministries on Netflix from just the last year or so. Super violent and a true story.

I’d say The Hatfields & The McCoys too. Sort of a western.

Both great.

The Old Way with Cage.

Horrible reviews, but I liked it.

Those were the first two that I thought of. I had never seen Open Range until recently and couldn’t believe I had never heard of it.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs was excellent IMO. No surprise from the Coen Bros.
