Don't Trust Bain

Reuban Bain Jr. is a great college player, but at 6'2" 270 lbs with very short arms, set off a few alarms bells. When he faces up against professional LT who's 6'5" to 6'8" 305 to 330+, who knows all the tricks that DE's do, I don't know how he'll pan out. I think Bain would do better as an outside rusher in a 3-4 scheme than an on the line rusher from the DE spot. 8 is a lil high to take that chance, there are a lot of options with more upside the Bain that's available at 8, JMHO.

Saints spent alot of money on DE already. CB from LSU would be a great choice.

I disagree with this part. Bain is short and squat and would be better as a LDE in a 4-3 or maybe a DE in a 5 man front. He doesn’t have the speed, length, bend to get around a LT consistently. His go to move is a bull rush and he does well in recognition in run support.
That’s why I think he will be a better run stuffing, edge setting DE than a pass rushing OLB.

Isn't arm length incredibly important for run D from DL?

Truly think we will regret it if we don’t take Mansoor.

If we were to draft him then he failed, the same people simping for Bain would be calling for Mickey’s head

I’m convinced they just like his name.

Yes, which makes him a liability there. But he has some power and elite run recognition. I think he can at least make that part of his game work for him.
I think long armed OTs will be able to keep his bull rush at bay, and he’s not a speed guy who can get around guys. I think that severely limits his prospects of being a pass rusher.
Unless of course he’s playing against Will Campbell.

It's called common sense, have you ever heard of a great pass rusher with short arms? Please smart arse, I'm waiting.

Dane Brugler, Daniel Jeremiah, Jordan Reid, and Todd McShay all have Reuben Bain as a top 10 player in this draft, all positions. But you know better. Guess they don't have your common sense. Muh, short arms, der, der.

Guys with unique traits can create these weird niches for sure, sometimes to be HOF guys....but I just don't know what the totality of the collection of his traits can do. It's like everything that CAN be good is coopted by something that destroys the positive.
He has the mentality and recog to be dominant as a run defender, but lacks the size and arms.
He has the bend that edges dream of but lacks the explosiveness to be a speed rusher.

Coming from someone who never put a jock strap on

Bottom line for me, there's just too many question marks surrounding Bain. I think there will be too many great-elite prospects available to us, that i wouldn't take the risk on Bain.
I feel much more confident in guy like Downs and Delane being pro-bowl caliber DBs, so id rather go that route.
