One week out, here is when I’m at

It’s slow news time a week before the start of the draft. Everybody has a mock and opinions. Just throwing out mine for discussion:
1. No trade up under any circumstance.
2. Players that I think should be available that I would love: Downs, Delanne, Tate. All safe picks that fit a need.
3. Players I would love if they dropped to us: Love, Reese, Styles. I do not think they will be there.
4. Players I would not want: Bain (short arms), Bailey ( sub average run defender, problems with emotional control on field/suspensions, not a leader),
5. Players I don’t want at 8, but would be okay if we traded down: Tyson (fine w later if we trade down but too risky in top 10), Lemon ( over rated but would take late 1st), McCoy ( lack of competitive play in last year is concerning. Fact that he was healthy and chose not to play in last 4 games and senior bowl is an issue)

I'd draft Tyson over Tate.

I get that. Tyson certainly has the bigger upside. I just see Tate as much safer. Ohio State product at WR, does not drop the ball, scheme versatile, and good size.
The fact that Tyson missed 1out of every 3 college games is concerning. He may hit his ceiling ( compared to Justin Jefferson or Stefon Diggs) or he could be like Payton Turner and never play.
I’m just tired of wasted first round picks and would rather take the safe option

Ohio State players sure get a helluva bump in evaluations
Some of it is definitely deserved, it’s a well run program……but there are issues in Tate’s game that make him not worth a top 10 pick (talent wise). Struggling with press/man coverage makes it really hard to project him being worth of a WR1 draft selection.
Tyson definitely has the attributes of a WR1, but the medicals are worrisome for us fans (some teams may be fine with it).

I agree with your assessment sir.

That is a weird way to word this. A concern like this would eliminate any player who has ever had a season ending injury that impacted the majority of 1 season.
Between 2022 - 2023 he missed 13 games (equivalent to 1 season) due to a major knee injury. He then played the final 3 games of 2023 & and first 12 games of 2024 before the broken collarbone. Missing 4 games last year for multiple hamstring injuries would have me concerned, but not enough to move him down my board unless he still is not 100% (5+ months since injured)

Same. I think I’d go lemon as my wr1 in this draft though. I like Tyson the best but it’s close between him and lemon for me so with the injuries I’d say lemon by a small margin is the first wr I’d grab from this class. Feels like he’d be there at 8 . The more I think about the draft though the more I really hope Delane is available and the pick. Big need. Feels safe. He’s extremely versatile moving from man to zone coverage. A willing tackler and receiver eraser. And that speed … holy crap.

Unless Bailey, Reese, or Styles is there, give me Delane.

I have embraced Tyson at this point.

Not wanting Bailey is a horrible take. Doesn’t matter bc he’s a lock to go #2

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’d know that he didn’t work out at the combine nor at his pro day because he’s still injured five months later. Dude is still gimpy.

He had 1 issue and he can't control his emotions, lol? Not every player is a leader. You can't have 53 leaders on one team, lol. Ever heard the phrase "too many hands in the pot ruins the gumbo"? If he is there at 8 he is the pick. You might want to prepare yourself for that one if he's there.

And I hope that the teams above us think he is as great as you do, lol.

Not living and breathing every piece of information about the NFL draft the past few months = living under a rock???
Have you been living under a rock to not notice that he has a private workout set-up for all 32 teams tomorrow? And even though he did not participate at the combine and pro days, he did have individual interviews with a variety of teams, including the Saints.

Me too. I’ll wish for the best and try to pump myself up over the pick but holy shite I don’t wanna draft him at 8.

I get you're going for the perceived upside. Taking risks at such a high place in the draft order isn't a good idea. None of the WR's have really distanced themselves from the others. I would be more comfortable going defense in the first and draft Bell later. Just my two cents.

I think Bain falls to 9 or out of the top 10. I’ve just seen too many mocks with him falling. I think he will be a good run stopping, edge setting DE. I just don’t think he will be a game wrecker or anything.

I just can’t get behind a 5’11” WR as a lead receiver. I felt that way with Brandin Cooks when he was a 1st rounder. I feel that Zay Flowers is limited as a1 also bc of his size. A great 2….sure. If I’m drafting in the top 10, I want to believe a guy can become a WR 1. I realize he’s compared to Amon Ra, and he’s undersized also. Amon Ra was also a 3rd-4th round pick.
Besides his injury history, scouts have highlighted that Tyson is a finesse receiver. He goes out of bounds to avoid some contact and goes down to avoid hits. I get that is due to injury and will prolong career. But, Olave is finesse also. Putting those two together as our primary pass receivers would limit our offense in some ways.
