Thanks to acorn apocalypse back in the fall.

Do I just keep mowing over them? The hell I'm pulling every one of those things.

Are you sure it's not 288?

Mow em down. Or get your kids a little shovel and pay them a quarter per tree sapling they bring you. Then we'll know if your count is right. 287 x $0.25 is only $71.75, plus the cost of a shovel if you don't have one already.

if theyre saplings and you have some containers; dig em up, grow em out, sell or plant em.

if theyre root suckers, enjoy mowing over them for as long as you live there.

suckers are sprouts coming off the roots of an already established tree. If the shoots are directly under an existing tree near the base, they might just be part of that tree. You'll have your answer if/when they keep resprouting after mowing.

oh gotcha.

no, these are ALL OVER the yard; 20, 30,40 ft away from the oak tree. those damn acorns went everywhere

walking the dogs in the fall/winter was like skating; kept sliding across the acorns when they pulled.

welcome to wooded land ownership. I have thousands and thousands of sprouts/saplings/young trees everywhere I don’t mow. Since I am soft hearted I pull up a lot of them and pot them for giveaway or planting

If I didn’t mow anywhere my property would revert to woods within a couple years

This happened with my yard and maples. Property is covered in saplings. I think the cicada holes contributed to successful sprouting.

With each mow their numbers dwindle

I think I’ve heard that roots spread out twice the size of the trees canopy. I fought crepe Myrtle suckers for three years after cutting down the tree.

Pot them up and stick them in the shade. They’ll happily chill out there for years if needed. When you decide to plant a new tree, stick them in the ground

This board wouldn't be nearly as much fun without you

Potting it shall be! I'll save a few

You need to fix the end of that drainpipe.

lollygagging around with "dream" sheds and acorn trees when you're letting your place fall into disrepair.
