If you watch that regional the ball was flying out of the ball park that weekend. Some of the scores were just goofy. You had kids who barely hit homers all year going deep. I think the red flags were there,

Yes, because he was familiar with him from high school recruiting. He wasn't basing it on performance at Oregon State. He was basing it on what he knew of the player and how he thought he could help him develop.

I mean he was the California player of the year coming out of high school. Not working out, but he wasn’t some no name. Besides he’s barely played recently and we suck even more lately. So we have much deeper issues to deal with. Like the guys actually playing and sucking

Agreed but I just feel a lot of our resources went toward getting him based off of that reputation. He was supposed to be a big part of this team, and feels like we wouldve been better off getting someone with less of a rep in high school that could actually help this team.

I’m not going to pretend that I know what the status of all the infielders in the portal last season was. But I know the team needed infielders. And I also know Trent caraway was near the top of the list for infielders in the transfer portal. He hasn’t performed as well as hoped, but it’s not like he was considered a scrub. There were plenty of baseball content creators considering him an impact player for this season.

I seriously doubt Jay is taking a guy purely off a hot streak

Some of you are just dumb. Caraway had a solid resume coming in. He's been good in the field for us. His batting average is currently better than that of the person who replaced him. That isn't saying much, but if he were eligible this past weekend, there is a good chance he would have been in the lineup Sunday and maybe even Saturday. Yes, we need more production out of him at the plate, but the regional last year proved that he has it in him and seems to play just fine under pressure.

Caraway was an ultra talented player coming out of high school, the regional run was just a sign to show what he CAN do.

There's plenty of examples of guys not necessarily working out 1 place, going to another and getting better.

Cam Johnson actually turned into a serviceable weekend arm at OU in his 3rd college season, he may not be the ace they thought, but the dude literally couldnt even stay on the mound here for a full inning of outs most of the time with his lack of control.

Chris Stanfield was never a bad player at Auburn, but he was definitely a "background"/"never notice" type of player there for 2 years hitting .276/.280 in his 2 seasons entirely. Then he hits .326 in the SEC here last year mostly from the bottom of the lineup.

You see stuff like this happen, if Caraway doesnt work out he doesnt work out ultimately but there's a reason you take chances on guys you believe have some talent to unlock still.

Come on man, this is an insult to Jay's intelligence.

Holy crap, you've figured out the secret to winning at college baseball. JJ needs to get you on staff ASAP.

I understand his resume, but man he had a really bad year last year before that regional. His struggles were talked about by a lot of people. And that was in whatever league OSU was in last season.

I dont question that man, I trust him. But he had very little time to put this haul together, and maybe his prior relationship and hype got in the way of the signs that were there. Which is understandable with the limited time he had.

Exactly. Sam Dutton barely pitched meaningful innings at LSU, then became the Friday night guy at Auburn and 2nd-team All-SEC.

So, you're going to ignore what ProjectP said and what notbilly laid out for you and still go with this scenario you just made up in your mind?
