No MLB board so I’ll post it here.
Disclosure, I am in no way a baseball fan. I know he’s good based on reputation and the constant social media highlights I get. Help a non-fan understand his greatness.

Let’s compare him to greats, past and present, in other sports to put things into perspective.

Is he better at baseball than _______ is to football?
Mahomes?
Brady?

Basketball
Joker/Luka?
MJ?

Soccer
Mbappe/Messi
Rinaldo

Golf
Scheffler
Tiger

That depends. This is an off topic board. What is the topic?

He’s the best that’s ever played.

He is still young in his career, but I’d venture to say he is the best overall player ever.. he’s a top 5 pitcher and top 5 hitter in all of baseball. Not to mention, his translator is in jail for him gambling.. that says a lot about a man

He's on his way to becoming the goat. He's in a very unique spot being dominant two way player. Nobody in sports is like him.

Off topic means anything that there isn't a board for. Since this is a sports related topic involving an pro athlete, who is really good BTW, it would go under more sports

The fact that this isn't a ludicrous statement says it all. Hopefully, he has a lot of career left and can make that inarguable.

He's fun to watch and seems to be liked by most everyone.

He's Roy Hobbs that stole a wallet.

He's playing at a level never seen before, but greatest is something I associate with over a career.

Mind blowing stat line of a game on the biggest stage.

quote:

In a historic 2025 NLCS Game 4 performance, Shohei Ohtani delivered what is considered the most dominant individual playoff game ever, throwing six shutout innings with 10 strikeouts while hitting three home runs to clinch the series for the Dodgers. He became the first pitcher to homer twice in a playoff game and set a new record with 12 total bases.

Def not in the all time discussion for me. Career is .281 w/283 homers. On the mound he's career 40-20 with a 2.93. It's cool he both pounds the crap out of the ball & pitches too but again, not all time numbers yet.

He’s the greatest player of all time and it’s not close.

With all due respect, you need to get thee to a baseball encyclopedia. Babe Ruth was career .342 with 714 hitting & 94-46 2.28 with 107 CGs pitching.

It’s hard to compare eras. Have said this for decades, but time to move the fences back and allow players to find loopholes in performance with unlimited PEDs. No shame in it.

Free markets settle arguments like this.

That's fair, so what about Barry Bonds? Career .298 with like 760 and seven MVPs. The most feared hitter in the league for years on end.

Every player that wasn't a DH was a two way player. This is baseball, not football. Granted a starting pitcher obviously has more of an impact on the defensive side of the ball (once a week), but let's not act like other HOFers were sitting in the dugout scratching their arse all game.

Ohtani is a special player and a superstar, no doubt. It just annoys me when people ignore the glovework of every other player.

He’ was playing against guys that were olumbers in the off season

Babe Ruth isn’t having a 50/50 season and being an Ace on the mound.
