Maybe they supported a set of principles, and voted for that set of principles three times because the guy best represented those?
Then, when he goes back on those principles, they aren't as supportive of him because he is defying the principles they voted for.
Quite a few people voted Trump because he said that he would Make America Great Again in part by discontinuing printing money and sending it to Ukraine on Day One. That's one principle they voted for. Is it surprising that they now criticize him for not doing so
