Another prime example of the mocking bird media. The 2026 NDAA now automatically registers 18 year old males for selective service, something every man for the past 100 years has had to do in person.

You don't hate the media enough, trying to create a panic over a non-issue.

It is. But the media wants to create a panic about the draft.

Registration at 18 for males was always a thing…..

Registration is not the same as a draft being instituted….

I didn’t register with Selective Service when I turned 18. I just enlisted instead.

I guess it must have made the news when the NDAA was authorized, because I swear I heard about this before.

Regardless, it makes sense for it to be automatic. If it's required, what's the point of making people physically do it themselves?

Selective service registration is not a draft. That they are calling it a draft shows either a mind-numbing level of repeating ignorance without doing the barest minimum of fact-checking or a purposeful pushing of biased information to push a political agenda.

Oh I'm aware of all this. I'm just saying I thought automatic registration was already a thing. I guess not.

Media outlets are just now reporting it and with the same headline. It's a non issue, but they're reporting it as if the draft is restarting.

I don’t mind that it’s not automatic. I’ve got issues with conscription

My guess is this. Low info folks will see this as a pretext to a ground war by Trump.

I don't think the draft should exist, but it does. If it is going to exist, I see no problem with automatic registration. Not worth fighting over imo. Eliminating the draft is worth fighting over, but not how you register for it while it exists.
