I could swear I remember a quote from former Saints all pro safety Tommy Myers in the 1990's where he said he pulled for the Falcons over the Saints because he was close friends with former Falcons quarterback and head coach June Jones. This was after the Saints had inducted Myers into their Hall of Fame. However, I can no longer find any evidence of this online. Anyone else remember this? If so what a friggin traitor that dude was!

All I remember is his 90+ yd pick 6 vs the Vikings. We didn’t get many of those back then

I don't remember anything like that.
We didn't have many great players in those days, but he was one.

I mean this is still a job to these guys regardless of era. They’re not going to look at it the same as a fan would.

If a close friend’s livelihood is tied to the performance of a “rival” team I’d bet many guys would pull for that team over a team they used to play for.

I was in attendance as it seemed like #37 was running in slow motion down the sidelines
The INT was 97 yds. Meyers ranks 2nd for most INT's in Saints history (36). The late Dave Waymer tops the list with 37. During the 70's and 80's, my mom worked in the ticket office, and I got free sideline PRESS passes that allowed me access to anywhere, including the locker room. Following the games, I'd ask opposing players for their chin straps, wrist bands, gloves, QB towels, etc I had all kinds of football game-worn gear from Jon Cappelletti, Jim Zorn, Tony Dorsett, Fran Tarkenton, Ken Stabler, Bill Bergey, Lester Hayes, Cliff Branch, etc ...

sadly I witnessed multiple ATL Big Ben miracles (Bartkowski to Jackson) as the Saints snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Erxleben blocked punt near the goal line.

FYI - the original Saints ticket office (pre-1976 - Superdome) was located in a bldg on Lee Circle.

I doubt he really said that. I've never even heard any rumour of it either.

Everytime I ride the streetcar around Lee Circle, I think of that.

944 St Charles, next door to the YMCA

They moved the ticket office to the Superdome in 1979

Yeah I remember Big Ben and also Russell Erxleben fumbling a punt snap in a 34-34 overtime game against the same Falcons in what I think was a season opener

I don't know whether or not the team was rooting or playing for the opponent, but, there have been times when the Saints were so bad that I thought they were trying to lose the game.

Is that the same thing?

I remember that the Saints were so bad on defense they called Meyers the league’s smallest linebacker. He played safety.

Meyers shoulder pads looked over size. He would throw those into the helmet of receivers that came over the middle.

Different game.
