I wouldn’t be surprised if the plants were already infiltrated with smart bombs.

This is what I've been thinking too. Things that can take them out/down but not totally destroy them.
It's a balance. Needing to nudge the locals to start going after the regime, but not turn on us if we destroy to much their future looks bleak.

Yep, HD, it is an attempt to walk that tight rope. I think the one thing that is becoming clear is that if Trump truly takes out massive infrastructure, then there is zero doubt that he will be charged with War Crimes. The Dems and their handful of complicit Republicans will shut him down if not take him out after the Midterms.
Given the superior that scenario I think bucks the whole System and fulfills the Leftist Muh Dictator scenario. As “Dictator “ is a subjective term and some form of Systemic collapse and dysfunction would surely escalate into martial law territory.
If the coming election is not openly verifiable, hell is going to break loose. As it has to given the either - or dynamics.
Today is pivotal as it will affect our lives as much as the Iranians. We’re just a few months behind them before we find ourselves in a national crisis/dogfight.
Feckless Supreme Court had better do their job and clean up those Voter Rolls.

Ultimately we are on the same page. Do something that gets the right effect without complete destruction. Be them "smart bombs" or "soft bombs" as you described.

I mean to be fair, if he actually blows up all their civilian power plants and bridges, that is a war crime

Power and bridges used to manufacture and transport rockets and missiles, and give their brownshirts access to harass the Persian people. We blew up a number of "civilian" roads to keep the Basij from reaching the WSO we rescued on Sunday. War crime!
We weren't allowed to shoot .50cal at people, or it would be a war crime. So you're taught to aim at their equipment, like their rucksacks and weapons. That they're carrying.
