Anyone cruised out of NO lately with Carnival. I haven’t been in years but the wife wants to take the family I have 4 kids. Some people have told me not to go out of NO that the people are making the trips bad. Anyone have any experience?

The NCL cruise out of New Orleans was not that bad. It was fine.
I have taken that Carnival cruise but that was 27 years ago.

If you search the board for "carnival" and change the search range from the default of 7 days to the last 2 years with "other options," you'll see why.

I took a Carnival Cruise from NOLA about 2 years ago during Mardi Gras break. While I did notice the riff raff, it didnt bother us too much but it was obvious. Wife wants to do another cruise out of NOLA and the only reason why I am considering it again is because the Carnival Liberty has a decent itinerary from May-1st week of July this year.

We did back in February on a 7 night. We typically cruise on Disney, and the crowd was certainly different, but nothing horrible. I'd sail with them again. But NOLA gets the older boats, so I had more issues with the ship itself than the people. My youngest (5) enjoyed the kids club, but my oldest (9) was bored in it.
Carnival has done a good job of scaling back the ghetto element lately, so don't let that deter you.
ETA: Do some research when picking your cabin location. For the ships out of NOLA, I would recommend being midship or forward on deck 7. We were aft on 8, and had the lido buffet was right above us. It could be noisy occasionally and all the smells in the ship tend to gravitate to the back of the boat I found. Nothing awful, just something I'd do differently in the future.

Took 15 family members on Mariner of the Seas last April outta N.O.
Parking in the garage wasnt available so we dropped bags had to go park in a gravel parking lot a ways away, and then a shuttle bus came and picked us up.
There was no issue with craziness and we all had a really goodtime for it to be Carnival as we normally go Royal Caribbean out of Galveston.

Its gonna be bad if you go on a 3-5 day one in summer on Carnival. Try a different company or port if you can.

We went on 7 day and it was not bad.
We normally go RC but my 75yr old mother insisted on Carnival. We did Carnival.
Wasnt a big deal on that trip.

As said def do the 7 day and it’s very noticeable the difference in quality. Have fun.

Did a 5 day Carnival last year for Easter with the family and in laws. Had the fans popping at the sail away, but after that it wasn’t bad. Went on a 7 day at Mardi Gras this year and no fans popping at the sail away along with no issues at all. Both cruises were out of New Orleans. Like another poster mentioned, the cruise ships are older but have gone to dry dock within the last year. Late next year I believe the Dream comes to New Orleans. This past cruise we had a room on the 11th floor which my wife loved. As we just walked straight out to chairs in the morning and was right next to the splash pad area for our 5 year old. If you had to go to the bathroom you could easily go back to the room rather than the one by Gus Burger.

I booked a Grand Suite for next week on the Liberty. I still enjoy cruises. But I mostly sit on my balcony and chill. 7 day cruises have less bad element. But carnival is the party environment ship.

My first ever cruise was Carnival. 2 different groups got arrested for fighting. Lots of overweight women in thongs too.

People get arrested. People die. It's like anywhere.
Then there are people work no shame or modesty. I like cruises because I get a week where I don't have to think about anything. No phone, no email, no customers. Just the ocean.
Now I prefer just flying to Mexico and going to Isla mujeres. But I hadn't been in a cruise in almost 4 years so decided to try it again.

Skip Carnival and New Orleans. Suggest Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Many more cruise choices; cruise lines and destinations. I have been on many, many cruises; Carnival was the worst; by far it attracts the most riff-raff on cruise lines.
