First draft in years I don't want the Saints to trade down

A trade down in the 1st would would likely cost the Saints a chance at the elite prospects in this draft. Consensus has a significant drop off after Reese, Styles, Bain, Downs, Bailey, Delane, Love, and Tate. Even if you prefer Lemon over Tate or McCoy over Delane, those too could easily be gone if we trade down just 3 or 4 spots. Sure, we could trade back a couple spots with the Bengals, but the return would not be worth losing our choice of whoever remains of the elite group. Saints have no top 100 players - can't miss this opportunity to draft a star.

I'm also against a trade up in the 1st. There's going to be a great player at 8, the Saints shouldn't overthink it.

NB4 'we could trade down and draft the Penn State guard, he's the safest pick in the draft'. I will find you and kill you. Saints. Need. Stars.

As much as we still need a guard, I agree with you that this team needs playmakers even more.

Agree. We need to sit tight and draft BPA of the premium $$ positions at 8. We have a lot of needs. May as well go after one of the premium $$ positions and shore that up for cheap to help with cap in upcoming years. I’m kinda starting to hope M Delane is on the board and the pick at 8. Or they go best receiver on the board. Unless Bailey falls bc he’s my fave player in the draft. Just my .02

I keep seeing mock drafts with both Styles and Downs available at 8. I'd have a hard time choosing between the two.

I didn't know there were any other than Love, Styles, Reese, and maybe Mendoza

Styles 100%

Downs didn't work out.

Doubt Delane is still there at 8. He is a lockdown corner.

Same here. I almost would prefer one to be gone. That way the choice is made for the Saints.

Gotta think Delane is the guy. Locked down people all year through injury is impressive - to me that means inevitably when he gets hurt in the NFL he will still be okay

Trading down is not their MO. Trading up is. I will be content with the player available to us at eight.

They were never trading down regardless of where we were in the draft.

So many starting QBs got knocked out of games and the season this year. And it wasn't because they had too few Stars and playmakers. It was because their Olines were inept. I think our Oline was ranked what? 30th?

So meet me at sonic. Bring some help because my biggest request this year is the best Oline in the league to protect our new starting QB whatever the cost. Joe would agree I think

If it isn’t Reese, Styles, Bailey, or Downs then I don’t mind trading down.I believe we are out of the Love business and the rest of those guys listed aren’t that special to where you have to stay put. Feel like that are the absolute just elite defensive guys. The only receiver I really like in the first is Tyson and he has injury concerns. I don’t think Tate is that much better than the guys you can get in the second and I’m not big on Lemon. I don’t think Delane is that special either.

Maybe not but if an o lineman or two go before us and I think there’s a very good chance they will a stud is gonna absolutely fall to us whether it be styles , downs, or delane. If Bailey falls and we don’t take him I might actually cry.

Saints have shown three tendencies: drafting previously injured players for perceived value (Seeking Brees II syndrome), drafting unknown players from non-P4 schools (hidden gem syndrome...aka Jahri Evans affliction), and selecting players on athletic measurables, not necessarily demonstrated football abilities (Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane syndrome). Based on this, will probably reach for the Tenn CB returning from a major knee injury after trading up into the top five (I'm smarter than the rest of the GMs, aka Mickey syndrome)

I'm happy with anyone on this list. I'll worry a bit whether Bain is a risk, or whether Tate can live up to being a top 10 pick, but I'll understand the pick and won't be upset. Will be mad if we pick anyone else at 8
