Reminder: the Fab 5 didn’t win a natty

Is there a more revered team that fell short. I respect what they did accomplish, but it wasn’t all fair, and they were housed by Duke and choked agains Carolina in two championship games. I guess their fashion statement did a good bit for hoops. Is there another team that is more known that didn’t win the big one? All I got is ‘07 Pats.

Phi Slamma Jamma deserves to be in this conversation. You could take your pick of any of the 3 years. 82-84

So much LOL. What wasn’t fair?
Go back and find me another team with that much youth that did what they did. Their legacy is that they rolled in with no experience and made a national title game. The next season, they did the same and might have one it if not for a once in a generation mistake. And they did it in the face of a media circus.
frick the fab 5 and all; one of Iowas biggest games ever was against the soph Fab 5 the first home game after the death of a player. They were a force and a platoon of raw talent that meshed well fast.

What wasn’t fair? An Iowa fan asking this? Did you forget that Chris Webber was lured to campus by money from a big-time booster?

Some of the documentaries I have watced talked about how much they impacted the “culture” of basketball.

Much like the steroid era in baseball, if everyone is doing it, is it really unfair or is it just playing along? The UNLV teams the 2 years prior to the Fab 5 run was entirely bought and paid for. Likewise those Duke teams, UNC teams, Kansas teams etc. They all were playing on an even field as they were all cheating.

It wasn't just fashion. That was a different era. You didn't see 5 freshmen players starting back then. It was a big deal
