BREAKING - DEVELOPING:

American fighter jet shot down, and Iran is trying to capture the pilot while the U.S. launches a massive search and rescue operation

Seems Iran shot down an F-15 fighter jet, and is trying to captured the pilot

A massive American search operation is underway involving MQ-9 drones, F-35s and heliborne units

Iranian air defenses are engaging the American aircraft involved in the search and rescue

Location geolocated to the Khuzestan Province, southwest Iran – 30.6515, 50.1174

This would be the first time a country intentionally shot down an American fighter jet since 1999, 27 years ago, and the first time since the Iraq war a pilot was captured (in Iraq it was 2 Apache helicopter pilots)

Iranian state TV just put out t hat statement: "Anyone who captures the US pilot alive will receive a valuable reward"

This remains unconfirmed, but many indicators are pointing to this being true

The F-15 is not survivable in contested airspace.

It gives off a radar signature like a Goodyear blimp.

Which unfortunately means that we don't have the complete air superiority that we claimed

Few points on the apparent F-15 shoot-down and rescue efforts:

1. A single fallen F-15 in combat after over a month and over 15,000 US strikes is surprising only in that it took so long. That is an unbeatable record. There is air superiority over much of Iran, not air supremacy.

2. If the US is sending Black Hawks and Hercules deep into Iran, they know what they are looking for, i.e., ejected pilots, and most likely they know exactly where to pick them up and their condition. So they will likely find them before the IRGC.

3. If Iranian TV is asking the local tribes to capture the missing pilots, the IRGC know that trying to find them before the US is either impossible for them or would be suicidal.

Let’s pray that the pilots successfully ejected and found a good place to hide, and that they are already safely picked up, with amazing stories to tell.

And our statement should be if anyone (civilian or military) does capture him, their neighborhood gets razed to the ground

You don't seem to understand the definition of air superiority. Air superiority is simply a favorable position. Air supremacy means you can conduct operations without interference.

Well there you go! Ground troops have been there for a while now, and this incident is how we find out.

I hope U.S. forces locate the pilot first and bring him to safety. I’d imagine being a POW in Iran right now would be brutal.

That’s a big assumption there.

"complete air superiority" isnt an actual term. we certainly have air superiority. what we dont have is air supremacy or air dominance, which we have gotten very used to having everywhere.

I would believe mechanical failure, sand storm, pilot error brought the plane down way more than the Iranian Air Defense (which by now is two guys on a camel with a slingshot) actually shot down a F-15!
