We put seeds down April 1st. With the cooler weather coming will it hamper their proper early growth?

Zinnias are tough. Once they get past seedling you can ignore them. Water frequently until then though in the absence of rain
once they are in full bloom, cutting flowers at the next bud promotes new flowers; at the end of the season let them go to seed and then chop and drop for next years crop

They will be fine, zinnias grow very well in La. I do a full bed at my house every year to cut for my daughter and wife.
Pinch that second set of leaves to encourage branching and keep the dead heads cleared. That will keep them blooming.
Around mid July I plant a whole 100 cell flat again and replant when they are a few inches tall in August. With that late summer heat they get real leggy but the new plants will look great starting September through fall.

Yes and I actually got a winter resprout and new crop this year all the way up to the first freeze

I plant zinnia garden ever year and learned a few. They are susceptible to bacterial
Leaf spot and I started planting them
further apart line 12-18 inches to slow down spread. Water them at base of stem. Remove brown leaves as it spreads from there. Rotate your zinnia crop. Yes, they pop up from seeds from previous year.

I don't know of any fast seed to germinate than a zinnia. Crazy considering how small the seed it. Like 3 days from watering the seed to leaves. Prepped half my bed today before rain. Last year I gathered bare dead branches and piled them up in the bed so the zinnias would grow up through them and not fall over. Worked pretty good. I'll do it again I think.

I bought a Zinnia seed pack from cleggs last year i started collecting seed, i separated all seeds from the different colors, i had some over 3 ft tall, separated those. I got 2 spots that are covered with seedlings easy peasy to grow,

I sprinkled a big packet through my garden about a month ago. Their size is really picking up in the last week. I think you will be good.

I just clip my seed heads whole and put in a container in the garage all winter. First mow of the year, I drop them where I want and mow to spread.
