Got back a week ago from Turneffe Atoll off of Belize.

Caught my PB this time. About 8 pounds or so I guess. Lotta fun. He made about 5 massive runs. The Bonie got wrapped around middle post in the top pic and got him off that twice. Then he ran around that little Mangrove island to the left and in front of the big Mangrove island and buried himself in the sticks on the other side. The boat captain got us in good position and my son and I luckily unthreaded him from the sticks and he took off again and my son snagged him with the big net. Glad we had 20 pound tippet on 16 pound leader. Rigged up for Permit as well. He was a tough smart dude. We did a lot of wade fishing on the flats and wore this old man out.

No Tiger sharks. Did some diving and saw lots of black tip Caribbean reef sharks come around when we would spear the lion fish.

I went to San Pedro last month.. Hired a fishing guide and he sucked.. The squid we used for bait was old and the fish didnt like it. I caught a barracuda with a shedog topwater and it was fun

Can be repurposed-- salt it down and let it ferment. A unique and delicious bagoong substitute in recipes.

Still a bucket list fish for me. Went on a guided trip in honduras a few years ago and couldn't get any to play. Had one about to inhale my crab and my buddy threw his in the water at the same time and spooked him.

Can be frustrating when bonies get spooked by sea gull flying over or a false cast over them or you trip over rocks near em. Permit are way spookier and have so many things have to go right to catch em. Had three casts to permit this trip and one of my cast was a 70 footer within one foot of the permit. I didn't spook him. He looked at the fly and refused it. Still having caught a permit on a fly rod.
Have caught a lot of bone fish though. :-)

My son landed a Fish for Change scholarship for a trip to Roatan this July. This will be his first flats fishing experience. Hope that he has some success, but I know that it's tough fishing.

Can not suggest Captain Jody Leslie enough. captainjody.com

Capt Jody has been guiding for 20 years or so, but his dad has been doing it for over 50. These dudes are legit and know everything about the island, fishing, and where to go. Make a bad arse ceviche too.

I fished out of the Turneffe island Resort which is a small resort. Guy was named Ronny.

It's fun because it is tough! :-)
