Driving through this evening on our way to Houston (for our Rice visit). Would love some dinner recommendations. The internet recommends Bon Temps, Prejean’s, Don’s, Fezzo’s (in Scott), and The Cajun Table.

Mazen's out by the Acadiana Mall in the old Catfish Shack building.

Can’t go wrong with Fezzo’s in my experience
Disclaimer: I havent eaten there in like 10 years so I’ve no idea what it’s like today. Last time I ate there I enjoyed it.

Uncle T's in Scott is good and not too far off the interstate.

Prejean’s,
unless they have done a complete 180 I'd scratch that off the list

Bon temps is a really good spot.
Small, but authentic. When my in-laws come to town that always where they want to go.
Side notes:
Burger - Judice Inn
Classic Poboy - Olde Tyme Grocery
Modern poboy - Pop’s Poboys (the bahn bahn shrimp poboy is stupid good)

There are probably ten better burgers in Lafayette than Judice Inn.
Uncle T's is good. Fezzos is pretty good, and consistent. Pizza Village (get the Landry Special).

yep, I like them but they're a bit overrated, the old Brass Rail was one of the best in town, and there used to be a hole in the wall place out by the airport that had awesome burgers years ago

seems like the name had something to do with red pepper, they're specialty was spicy burgers

Uncultured swine downvotes. $15 a lb crawfish from a snowball stand downvotes. Mazen's is a great restaurant, and one of the few fine dining experiences untouched by the yuppie crust that covers DT Lafayette.

Charley G's, Mazen or Imonelli's (Fancy Casual) would be my recommendation as they are more my type of food.
Mazen Grill (Fancy Casual ) is one of my favorites. Crabmeat on everything! Weird blend of Seafood and Lebanese. Put an order for the dessert souffle when you get there because it takes 45 minutes but so good.
Mandez's (casual) is great. can get seafood or simple burgers.
Fezzo’s (in Scott) (Casual) if you want to keep your trip the shortest. Huge Menu.
Bon Temps (Casual) is hit n miss in my opinion, but good most of the time.
The Cajun Table (Casual) is 40 minutes from the interstate. Great fake Cajun atmosphere and good food.
Unfortunately La Fonda's is not the go to anymore for recommendations. Margs are still great, but just not what it used to be when Lafayette didn't have a million options and they cut back no service and quality. But if you want to swerve all the way to Texas, get you some!
If you pick a place, ask me on recommendations for what to order.
Fancy in Lafayette is not fancy either. Just white table cloths.

Prejeans was always a tourist destination conveniently located at I-49 / I-10. It was legit when James Grahm was the head chef during late 1980's ~ early 90's. Menu had various food options including: elk, buffalo, antelope, axis deer, and other wild game. Owner Biker Bob ran it into the ground and sold it to Tim Metcalf (Deanos, Marcellos Wine Market) 2 years ago. New menu and the food & service have drastically improved. The food is good, just not the best Lafayette has to offer.
Fezzos and Uncle T's (both in Scott, 2 minutes off I-10) have great charbroiled oysters and IMO better food than Prejeans. Bon Temp Grille on Pinhook is another great option to eat, but it's 10-15 minutes off I-10 and Pinhook traffic sucks .

What would you order at Fezzo’s?

when I-49 was 167 and before everyone jumped on the Cajun band wagon, circa the World's Fair, Prejeans was almost out in the country and was a damn good restaurant, even after it became a tourist trap it was pretty good for a few years, the last two times I ate there it was hot garbage
