Feel terrible for Reiliford, but am I the only one who wasn't blown away by his play?

I mean he was solid when healthy, but not this game changing talent that will hurt us too bad. We will be fine.

I thought he showed flashes of potential, now we’ll have to wait to see if he can develop

Not sure but you appear to be the first to post a thread about feeling bad for him.... and then talk smack about him.
Got any game film from your day??

Yes thankfully we got some dudes from the portal, but I’d always rather see one of our guys from LA do well.

Sorry he didn't live up to your standards. Hopefully he can receive the help he needs to recover from this.

It’s more about depth. He was a quality piece that played well in his role. He started a few games and also did well. With that said they should be OK without him.

I don't think we can judge any of the players brought in by the Kelly regime. It has become obvious that the entire program was fraught with mediocrity and complacency under that piece of shite.
ETA: My guess is that we will see a big leap forward from a number of guys that we thought were so so now that they are getting developed.

This is very true

His Freshman season towards the end of the season, he was developing into one of our best defensive linemen. He showed tremendous potential that wasn’t tapped into, because of his season ending injury against Southeastern last year.
I think it’s a big loss, as he was being counted on to provide a great depth piece, and would be used in rotation with the other DE’s.
I feel really bad for him. Difficult to lose two seasons in a row.

Hard to judge anyone’s performance accurately from last year’s team.

We missed him WAY more last year than most people realize. His injury negatively affected every other DE we played. Because they all wound up having to play more snaps than we would have preferred. And none of them to get to the QB.
Reliford is a RS So. You only seen him play as a true freshman and 3 or 4 games in his So. season. Then he had the shoulder injury. But apparently he was working his arse off and basically lived at the football ops building. I think the coaches were planning on him having a huge year this year.

That’s what we told ourselves last year. And you’re probably right. But now we’re really counting on Prince and Ross to stay healthy most of the season. I like having a Dylan Carpenter on the team. Program guy, knows what to do, stuck around the whole time. But we don’t need to find ourselves in a position where he’s playing 50% of the snaps.
Puts a lot of pressure on Brown coming in in shape and giving us productive reps as a true freshman.
Overall, I don’t disagree with you. I think you probably underestimate what Reliford was going to bring to that edge group this year. But I have some ties to Shreveport and have been following him more closely for a while—maybe I’m overestimating it a bit myself. I just hate it for Gabe, but also for LSU, already losing one of your top 4 guys at a position you were counting on to give you a lot more production this year than last year in the 1st week of spring training. Just gives us so little room for injury there moving forward. Oh well. We’ll see who steps up.

It’s ok to acknowledge he is a very good player who was just now coming into his own, and it sucks to lose him, but we have enough depth and talent where it will not be a big detriment. Both statements are true.
IMO, the best case scenario is Lamar is dominant right off the bat and can set the edge with that big frame at SDE and Jordan Ross can remain a pass rush specialist and just tee off on quarterbacks.

No, they’re not. Because of this:

You are counting on a true freshman with so much baby fat still that nobody knew if he would play DE, DT, or OT, to come in and “be dominant off the bat.” That ain’t happening. He might be really good—maybe even dominant when he plays—but nothing I’ve seen suggests he’s going to be able to play a ton of snaps. If he can give us 10-15 game, I think that’ll be very impressive.
And I’m not sure our depth is a good as you think:
Prince
Ross
Carpenter
Cobbins
Brown
Those guys can get you through a season. But what if another one gets injured? The silver lining in Reliford getting hurt so early, is Baker has the rest of the spring to work on different packages along the line than the typical 4 DL set we’ve seen.
But another thing to consider is how fast our offense is going to go. We’re gonna score quick. And our 3 and outs are going to be quick. The defense is gonna have to be ready to have much smaller breaks between series. Playable depth is gonna be paramount this year.

He is a very good DE and a big loss. I hate it for him and for us because he seems like a great guy.

If “being blown away” by a player is a requirement for you to feel fine about a position, you’re going to be disappointed with this team
It’s a big loss because LSU doesn’t have enough depth to lose experienced linemen

Worst argument on TD. So only Hall of Famer players can critique play now?
Posted on 3/31/26 at 11:27 am to Pauvetibete
once they started wanting to be paid and treating it like the pros, the "he is just a Kid" stuff ceased to be. They are paid athletes that are compensated very well. Expectations are like the pros. No hate or ill will but truthful critique of performance is allowed. We are paying big money for performance. No different than talking about a Carl Granderson or Chase Young.

I thought he looked really good in limited play.

I guess my main point is we should be fine this year, I saw a lot of people panicking like we lost dj Pickett or something. I know he was a stud coming out of high school so maybe my expectations were too high for him.
